CBD robbers jailed for 15 years
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Two unem- ployed men were sent to jail for 15 years after robbing a cell phone from an elderly man in the Klerksdorp CBD.
Joel Lephiri (23) and Frans Maka- taka (32) were arrested in May after police officers chased them down after robbing the elderly man. The
duo stabbed the 73-year-old man and ran off with his cell phone.
Sgt Amogelang Malwetse, police spokesperson, said the police found the knife and victim’s cell phone in their possession. Both were detained during trial.
They were sentenced on Thursday October 27 to 15 years imprison-
ment on a charge of robbery with ag- gravating circumstances.
They were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The station commander for Klerksdorp SAPS, Brig Neville Sey- mour saluted the two arresting offic- ers and the investigating officers for their dedication and hard work on
the case.
He also expressed gratitude to the complainant who committed him- self and cooperated with the police throughout.
“This helped us rid the CBD from thugs and send them to prison where they belong. I’m glad the old man found justice,’’ he said.
