I declare that the entire dissertation, unless specifically stated otherwise in the text, is my original work. When the church came to this area, it did not change this situation. Instead, it gave more power to men than to women. The author of the thesis believes that there are enough texts in the Bible that talk about gender equality.

It can also be noted that patriarchy was not considered a problem in society. Second, there is a need to do a contextual Bible study with men in the Namibian context, which forced me to choose this topic. This explains to us that male pastors (as we are still the majority in ELCIN) play a major role in legitimizing patriarchy in the church.

The following resources offer some insights into the relationship between men in the church and society. R.Olivier, Shadow of the Stone Heart (1995), D. This project will focus primarily on the issue of patriarchy from a male perspective and how the Bible can help men in society, but patriarchy has not been put on the table about men would discuss. It is difficult to find literature on patriarchy in my church.

Methodology

Third, the need for contextual Bible study among male Namibian Christians is very crucial here. Only by studying the Bible in context can we as men help ourselves to understand how this system is wrong.

Outline

This is why boys are not allowed to hunt alone in the forest without a leader. Early in the morning, like the reed beast (elephant) Hashimanya (mining) gives wealth. In ancient times, they traveled long distances to the south of the country in search of work.

His task is therefore to dig water pits or a well in the garden in order to be able to supply the household with water. His orders, rules and orders must be obeyed by everyone in the country. What I know and have experienced is the understanding that a father is someone in the house that everyone respects.

To avoid problems in the future, the father should tell his relatives about it. They are denied the right to serve in the church because it is the same in society. This illustrates that the missionaries contributed a lot to the patriarchal system in the church (ELCIN).

It is therefore in the history of the creation of ELCIN that men were the first to be trained in the community for the ministry.

Introduction

The challenge from the secular government

The same applies to South Africa's new government, where a woman serves as Speaker of Parliament. Slavery and any form related to slavery is not allowed in the new Namibia, according to Article 9. The human dignity of all (and not just male dignity) is made to be recognized by everyone in the country by the government.

This is the challenge to the men of our time who used to place and keep women in the privacy and home. As women were politically active in bringing about change in governments, they are also active in transforming the church. There is a side clan of the father which the child is called in respect (if she is a girl).

Because if a person does not exhibit any of these behaviors, he is not considered a man in society. And there is no need for us to talk about or demand change and transformation in society. The other problem that needs to be addressed in society is language.

Women in Namibia, according to Gawanas, were obliged to respect two laws as dependents in society. Gawanas is right to discover this dual system in society on the women's side. On the other hand, traditionally the wife and children should not be involved in the father's economy or property.

The arrival of women in powerful positions and in decision-making bodies is a threat to some men in our society. Patriarchal structures in Namibian society should not only be considered a problem, but it is evil like other evil thoughts and actions that are considered social evils. I indicated how the new governments brought women into leadership positions in society.

However, this does not mean that a nuclear family is only European. It is also a Christian family in the sense that Christ has confirmed its conformity. It was not something to bother with in the situation where the text was produced.

Conclusion

This reveals that in Christ a man is not more important than a woman, even if we agree that he is the head of the woman. Because a woman will be saved by her faith in Christ, not by the faith of the man. This text reveals to us that the language of exclusion is no longer relevant in our context.

This text gives the message of liberation, a total liberation about which the church must speak openly and clearly, even more than the politicians are trying to do. But the problem will be here: if the church is the source of gender discrimination, how can it clearly show this message to the world. If the church (ELCIN) is preserving traditional patriarchal cultures and the male-centered text of the Bible without carefully and critically exploring them, it will have a hard time proclaiming this message.

How do men, especially Ovawambo men, read and interpret these texts in their Christian communities? is the question they will answer themselves.

Introduction

Section one: The experience encountered in the Bible study groups

  • Description of the area
    • Group two: Male students at Okalongo Senior Secondary School
  • Constraints
  • Readin2 Gal.3:19-29 with the male students at Okalon20 Senior Secondary School
  • A debate on the question of patriarchy with male students at Paulinum Theolo2ical Seminary

To organize this group I again asked Mrs. Hamushila to take a message to the circuit inspector in the area. Mr. Some female students joined us in the first session but could not make it to the second session. I can name only two men in the first group who are preachers in the congregation.

They listed all the qualities a man should have to be considered a man in the community and society as a whole. They know the roles a man should play in society as a husband and as a father. Another answer was that Jesus should also be considered the main character in the text because he was involved in the conversation with the Pharisees.

This interpretation became a threat to some of the husbands who are the breadwinners in the houses. Whether there are still laws in society, this group agreed that there are laws. They said that if there are no laws in society, there will be chaos.

They emphasized that the man is responsible for making laws because he was created first and he is the head in the community. On how they understand the system of patriarchy, they said that from creation the father is considered a leader, in society and as the head of the household. In my first chapter I showed how patriarchy should be seen as a problem in society and in the church.

In the text from Matthew, I showed how Jesus challenged the problem of divorce. If he does not belong to Christ, he does not belong to the community of people who believe in Christ and the church. We should not expect that reading the text from a liberated male perspective will be welcomed by all men in society.

The other answer was: Jesus should also be considered the main character in the text because he was involved in the conversation with the Pharisees. I have asked participants to feel free to bring what they think the text says into context. It is clear that what causes divorce and separation today is not related to the problem that Jesus mentioned in the text.

Answer: The answers were: The law was first given to discipline people and lead them in the right way. One says that the law was set up as a mirror so that people could observe themselves whether they were on the right path or not. This question has just been raised in the debate. This is where it occurred to me.).

I just want to confirm what my brother said, that before Christ came, there was no faith in the law, for in verse 23 it says we were under the discipline of the law, waiting for faith to be revealed. For all people in the community to obey what is right and shun what is wrong. Yes, we need laws because if we don't have them, there will be chaos in the community.

It is also related to the ancestors, just as God in the Old Testament is called the God of the fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who are the ancestors of the people of Israel. The answers were: The father is a leader, ruler, governor, instructor or commander in society. I welcomed their question and I promised them that it will be answered during the discussion.

1 The Government of Namibia has challenged this by introducing women into leadership positions in government. Liberal feminism is primarily concerned with the political and legal situation of women in society and is striving for equal rights for women in a socio-political system. Nowhere in the Old Testament does it say that male man was created first.
