Focus and Purpose of Study
The purpose of the study is to generate knowledge about adult learning in the informal context of home group Bible study, thereby addressing a gap in the literature both internationally and in South Africa. Among them were the leader of the Bible study of the home group and the participants (couples, by the way) who were willing to reflect their thoughts in the journal, so that. The church from which this home group Bible study is taken is located in an old, established middle-class suburb north of the city of Johannesburg. To mitigate this, data were collected through observation of the home group Bible study, journals and semi-structured interviews. Part of the triangulation of the data collection included members of the Bible study in the home group writing their reflections in a journal.
One of the home Bible study groups I initially approached turned down my request to participate in the study.
Literature Review and Theoretical Framework
Later developments in understanding how people learn focused on the social context and the individual's interactions with others. Learning, then, is not a matter of the individual acting in the world, but of the individual acting in the world” (Maynard, 2001, p. 41).
Anderson develops the concept of self as both socially constructed and the process of "faith," the construction of the religious self, as a type of social relationship. Not only do these findings support the conception of the social basis of learning through. This perspective of learning recognizes that learning can be of the mind, body and soul.
Certainly during the time of observation of the home group Bible study, the program followed by the group strongly questioned the truth claims of objective realities in the Bible, and searched for a. For this purpose, the group visited prisoners, the poor and the sick of the town. I then elaborated more on the characteristics and adult education theories that are significant in this case study of the non-formal learning activities of members of a home group Bible study.
Research Design and Methodology
In this home group Bible study case study, I was really able to get closer to the topics I was interested in, especially by accessing thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I have assured all home group Bible study members that their anonymity as well as that of the church will be preserved. Analysis of the categories and their resolution into patterns led to the generation of themes.
In the case of program notes, these are classified as formal, published, public, coauthored but not attributed, trust, professional, and circulation. A case study reflects a thoughtful choice to study the singular with the clear aim of understanding. As an alternative to reliability and validity, Guba has offered the concept of issue reliability (Rule & John, 2011). In developing the concept of reliability, Guba means the degree to which the case study has recorded the completeness and essence of reality in this case.
In the case of my study, the thick description is the result of the use of words. Triangulation by drawing data from multiple sources (observation, semi-structured interviews, diary entries) ensured the quality of the case. I used the interviews to explore some of the reflections in the diaries.
Regarding autonomy, I ensured the privacy, confidentiality and anonymity of the home Bible group participants. To make the purpose of the study transparent, I ensured that permission was obtained through official channels (Church Bible Study Leader and Home Group).

It is the last three of these phases that are important here because they provide a way to see how the participants in the home group Bible study are learning. Another feature of the nature of learning in this community of practice is what I call “learning to teach.”
The group emphasized that they did not do homework, but in the end five group members did keep a journal.
