pounds and showed a slight loss of form. Despite increasing her training work, and reducing her diet, this bitch could not be brought down to her normal racing weig ht. " Army Beauty " (Table 2,

pounds, recently went up to 52 pounds, and has not run quite so well as previously. Great difficulty has also b een found in reducing this bitch's weight. Apart from these few instances oophorectomised and normal bitches do not appear to differ in any way except that the former have never shown any s:v mptoms of " heat ".

A perusal of t h e folllowing tables shO\\·ing the racing perfor- mances of six normal bitches and twelve oophorectomised litter sisters indicates that the racing potentialities of greyhounds is not inter- ferred with when t h e ovaries are removed between the ages of six and twelve months.

CoNCLUSIONs.

1. Thirty-six greyhou11d bitch es between th e .ages of six and 12 months have b een oophorectomised.

2. The oophorectomised bitch es have never shovm the psych o- logical or clinical symptoms of " h eat " .

3. 'fwo oophorectomised bitches have shown a tenden cy to slight im.:r ease in w eight, 2-3 pounds, abov e that estimated as th eir best racing weig hts. Difficulty h as been experien ced in controlling the weig ht of these two bitches.

4 . The p erformance of th e oophorectomised bitches h as b een comparable with that of their litter sisters.

5. Oophorectomy .appears to b e a practical method of overcoming th e diffi culty ex p erienced with greyhound bitch es necessitating enforced rest from r acing following each " h eat " period.

6 . Greyhound stud owner s sh ould consider t h e a dvisability of

oophorectomising all fem a les not d estined for stud purposes .
