INTRODUCTION

In this sixth issue of our publication we have presented a supple- mentary list of entries (A-B). Our work on the material we have collected since the project began is now entering a new phase: the publication of a first edition of an INDEX OF ENGLISH USAGE IN SOUTHERN AFRICA is no longer a distant aim; it has become a much closer reality. Positive and rapid progress has been made in the past year. Our stalwart supporters have continued to make valuable contributions by submitting additional information and offering valid criticism.

We thank those readers who responded to our previous requests.

Those of you who have not been in touch with us, but have comments to offer, are urged to write to us.
