A ball is being held on th• 11th ult., at the Communal Hall in aid of the Orphans' Fund. Bloemfontein is quite a large contributor to thi fund, besides the usual monthly sub criptions.

The Jewish Guild held an interesting and enjoyable function on . unclay, when a Yiddi h evening, the first of its kind, wa held at the Communal Hall. The attendance was large. Mr. H. Bradlow presided. )lr. Fogel spoke on the advantages of a function of that nature. Mr. W.

Sorokin then rnad ex.tracts from the works of Sholom 11leichem, which provoked a good de_al of cnjoym<'nt.

A violin solo was render d by Mr. \Ya~serman, who was accompanied bv Mr. D. Kahn. Mr. B. Stein read from the works of P r<>tz. Others who contributed to the programme were Mr. A. Rosen, ~fr. A. Cr>. tal and :\fr.
