Lentswe, Jouberton - A member of Al Qaeda (local gang) was arrested in Ext 13 by the Provincial Anti-gang Unit during an intelligence driven operation.
Paul Nguzo Ndamoyi (39) was ar- rested for the murder of Thabo Ntsie (43). Ntsie belongs to the same gang.
“Earlier in March, Ntsie was walk- ing from a tavern, accompanied by his friends, when they met Ndamoyi.
“He allegedly shot Ntsie with a rifle and fled from the scene. The victim was rushed to a local hospital
where he was declared dead on ar- rival,” said Col Adele Myburgh.
“During his arrest, his house was searched and a magazine and am- munition were found. Thus, he was further charged for unlawful posses- sion of ammunition.
“He appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ court on May 11, on charges of murder and unlawful possession of ammunition. He was remanded in custody until May 18 for a formal bail application,’’ Col Myburgh said.
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A shop owner in the CBD was arrested for being in pos- session of stolen property after a cell- phone that was stolen earlier was found in his store.
Sgt Amogelang Malwetse, police spokesperson, said the 42-year old shop owner appeared in court but the charge
against him was withdrawn when he claimed that the cellphone was handed in at his shop for repairs. He however agreed to testify against Sabata Magage (32) who was arrested for mugging a 57-year-old victim in the CBD on May 11.The police were praised for acting
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The NW De- partment of Agriculture and Rural Development (NWDARD) launched the Muni-MEC forum, a structure aimed at involving the three spheres of govern- ment in integrated planning with the aim of transforming the agricultural sector in the province.
The launch took place on Monday May 16, and was an effort of the NWD- ARD to officiate partnerships in facili- tating a seamless process of planning, coordinating and implementing agri- cultural services locally. This forum, to be led by MEC Desbo Mohono, is con- stituted by representatives of the Na- tional Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, the NWDARD as well as all municipalities in the province, specifically Members of Municipal committees of Agriculture and Rural Development, Human Settle- ments as well as Infrastructure.
A determination was made that there was a need to have the three spheres to work together in accelerating services.
NWDARD has concluded to set up a forum to assist in reaching a common goal of revitalising agriculture locally.
The Head of NWDARD, Thupi Mokhatla, said the forum forms part of the District Development Model, an operational model for improving cooperative governance aimed at build- ing a capable and ethical development state. He further asserted that key to the forum deliverables would be to have joint effort in identifying the needs of communities within the agricul- tural sector, alignment of intervention plans, budgeting, and implementation thereof. This, he said, would basically translate into a single plan that would reach many people and result in a bet- ter benefit to the communities.

swiftly when the victim reported the mugging to the police. Magage was ar- rested shortly after the incident but his four partners in crime got away. “Inves- tigation led the police to the cellphone store where the phone was recovered.
The cellphone was handed back to the complainant,’’ she said.
Klerksdorp Station Commander, Brig Neville Seymour, warned shop owners that it is a criminal offence to buy sto-
len goods. “This encourages criminals to do more crime. If you buy stolen goods you will face the full might of the law,’’ he said.
Anyone with information about peo- ple or businesses buying stolen proper- ty, is requested to contact the police on 018 464 5080.
Magage was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again on May 20 to apply for bail.

forts particularly on agricultural services said the process which culminated in the forum launch was a fully consulted product. She also emphasised that the projects as implemented in the various munici- palities must be a product all three spheres of govern- ment’s efforts.
“Muni-MEC forum is purely launched in the context of elimi- nating and erasing the silo mentality from all three arms of government.
Seamless coordina- tion of government
work and projects will assist in fastrack- ing developments, eliminate red tapes as all decision makers converge from all spheres of government,” MEC Mohono said.
She further reiterated that the forum will need to be at the forefront in making an impact in local communi- ties. “The bulkwalk of the North-West province economy relies heavily on ag- riculture and many other sector facets.
The major assignment of this forum in partnership with municipalities will also be issues relating to profiling skills and education levels, current employment and growth trends as well as potential arrears for growth with a view of un- locking the potential within municipali- ties,” Mohono further alluded.
Municipalites also attended the launch and have voiced their unequivo- cal support to the forum. Amongst others, these representatives appreci- ated the initiative by MEC Mohono and lauded the forum as a proper vehicle to take services to communities. Cllr Itu- meleng Moarabi, MMC Local Economic Development at Ngaka Modiri Molema District, amongst other representa- tives, has also welcomed the initiative and declared his trust on a partnership
“that will bring transformation in the agricultural sector.”
As part of the launch, the forum has adopted Terms of Reference as well a framework Muni-MEC operations.
The forum will also be in two folds i.e.
Muni-MEC which will constitute MEC and MMCs; and the Technical Muni- MEC which will constitute of the HoD, Mr Thupi Mokhatla as well as Chief Directors and Directors of participating Departments and Municipalities. The terms of reference detail composition and functions of the committees, the roles of each stakeholder group as well as meeting schedules.

to evaluate the results of mutual coope- ration between the Department and Feed, as well as to motivate participa- ting schools to comply with the stand- ard requirements and regulations re- quired to achieve sustainable positive effects for the learners benefitting from the programme,” explained Henriette Schoeman, Project Manager for Feed.
The Vitality Booster Porridge which Feed is distributing to schools is locally produced and exclusive to Feed. Each portion of the vitality porridge contains valuable vitamins, minerals and pro-
teins for the children’s healthy develop- ment. Learners are offered one portion upon arrival in school in order to make sure that the children who mostly come from families in need and without in- come, should not begin their school day hungry and without energy.
In instances where school food gar- dens can be established, Feed arranges Agri-training for neighbouring commu- nities on how to set up a food garden, and provides ongoing support. Vegeta- bles grown from the school garden are then used to supplement the daily meal
that is provided to children and where possible, to members of the community.
Feed has been distributing Vitality Por- ridge in the rural and farm areas as well as townships of Potchefstroom, Klerks- dorp, Ventersdorp and Makwassie dis- trict where unemployment is high and the families often suffer from hunger.
In order to expand the programme to reach more schools that are in need throughout the country, Feed requires additional funding and donations from benevolent South African companies and private donors.

Roadshow to ‘feed’ Matlosana
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A roadshow be- tween the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Department of Education and an NGO, Food, Education, Energy and Develop- ment (Feed) took place recently.
Feed provides supplementary meals to more than 14 000 learners in 33 se- lected beneficiary schools in Matlosana, Makwassie Hills and JB Marks Sub- District. The evaluation was done with Principals of beneficiary schools.
Since 2021, Feed and partner SUN- farming South Africa, have distributed around 7.5 million portions of locally- produced vitality booster porridge to learners and families from poorer communities, in order to bring relief of distress and to contribute to a healthy development of the learners by way of providing them with well-balanced nutritious meal daily. The roadshow was organized in order to emphasize the importance of the full cooperation of participating schools, and to ensure sustainable results for the children from a programme which draws its funding from public goodwill and private dona- tions.
