Klerksdorp Midweek, Leeudoring- stad - She calls herself “a beautiful African queen”. Kegomoditswe Faith Matete is 26-years old and has her eyes set on the Ms Africa crown.
Known as Bellekay (Belle is French for beautiful woman) and founder of the Bellekay modeling agency and Bellekay Foundation, Matete is a finalist of the Ms Africa pageant.
Hailing from Kgakala Leeudoringstad she is a mother of two, a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
“Growing up as a child I always wanted to make a name for myself through my dream of being a model and to make a difference in someone’s life, yet it is such a great blessing seeing myself being able to touch so many people’s lives as young as I am.
“I groomed a lot of models in the North West Province and most of them are doing well both in pageantry and mode- ling industry. I pride myself with the philanthropic work I have done for communities, I was even awarded the Act Of Love Award in Potchefstroom in 2021 for doing great things for more than one community and not expecting anything in return,’’ she told Klerksdorp Midweek.
Matete is grateful for the ex- posure the pageant brought her and said she could increase her charity base.
She is looking forward to boarding the MSC Orchestra where the pageant will be held cruising Mozambique’s Pomene Island from Durban. “It will be the greatest experience for me because Klerksdorp Midweek,

This initiative was made pos- sible with the help of local business people that sponsored the restoration
and repair of the trailer for the SAPS. The trailer is parked at different locations in the suburbs and CBD to add to SAPS visibility in the commu- nity. This also means that people do not have to visit the Klerksdorp police station to register a case or to certify documents.

The trailer will be operational from 08:00 to 16:00 daily. On Thursday it will be parked in the parking lot at the Checkers Hyper and on Friday in OR Tambo Street near Home Af- fairs.
Model living her dream
it is more than what I wanted, especially since there was a time in my life where I felt like it’s over for my dreams. I got engaged at the age of 19 and 8 months later I conceived my first child. I knew my hopes of entering the Miss South Africa pageant was shattered because of that. I know I was not sup- posed to find myself in that situation but it happened.
“I literally chose love over my dreams and it didn’t feel that way until the relationship
changed drastically from what it used to be. Nine months after giving birth I found myself in the first of three different Neuro Clinics due to being severely depressed and only God knows how much it took for me to take myself out of that dark place of my life because instead of things getting better, they kept on getting worse. My prayer was always ‘God I just want to be okay, is that too much to ask for?’ I had to own up to my mistakes, accept things that I
couldn’t change and get the courage to do what I believed I could do.’’
She is grateful that the Afri- ca Pageant is giving many women who had given up on their dreams a chance. “It is also more charitable than any other pageants I’ve heard of.
On our arrival in Pomene we will participate in outreach projects to the school and community and also hand out Dignity Dreams packs (washable pads), clothes and books.’’

‘n Huldeblyk oor die lewe en loopbaan van Johannes Kerkorrel is op Sondag 13 November uitgesaai. ‘n Herhaling is om 04:23 op 16 November en dis ook op Showmax beskikbaar.
Die uitsending merk die herdenking van sy dood 20 jaar gelede, op 12 November 2002, ’n gebeurtenis wat skokgolwe deur die land gestuur het.
In Kerkorrel: 20 jaar later word daar gekyk na die impak wat hy op die kultu- urwêreld in Suid-Afrika en spesifiek op Afrikaanse musiek gemaak het en waarom mense twee dekades ná sy dood hom steeds huldig.
“Terwyl ek verlede jaar
’n dokumentêr oor Koos Doep gemaak het, het ek baie na Kerkorrel se opnames van sy liedjies geluister,” sê Niel van Deventer, vervaardiger en regisseur.
“Ek het skielik besef dit is vanjaar 20 jaar sedert Kerkorrel se selfdood.
Soos met Koos, voel ek dat daar kort ná hulle dood dokumentêre huldeblyke gedoen is, maar niks wat
die impak en hulle rolle in hulle eras in oënskou neem nie. Ek het dus vroeg hier- die jaar na sy seun Reuben uitgereik en toe ek en Waldimar Pelser, hoof van kyk- NET, in Junie ontmoet het ek dit aan hom genoem. Hy het dadelik die meriete van die projek ingesien en ek is dankbaar dat Palama Productions dit saam met kykNET kon aanpak.”
Benewens Reuben wat oor sy pa praat, is ander bekendes in die dokumentêr te sien, insluitende Amanda Strydom, Karen Meiring, Stef Bos en Valiant Swart.
Willem Möller en Jannie Hanepoot van Tonder, wat saam met Kerkorrel - wat as Ralph John Rabie op 27 Maart 1960 in
Johannesburg gebore is - in die Gerefor- meerde Blues Band was, deel ook hulle herinneringe.
“Ons het ’n lang lys gehad van mense met wie ons wou gesels, maar ons moes dit noodged- wonge korter maak om alles in
’n uur te pas,” verduidelik Niel.
“Op die ou end het ons ge- poog om met soveel moontlik mense wat na aan hom in die
verskillende tye van sy lewe was, te gesels en ek dink ons het dit reggekry.”
Niel dink Kerkorrel, wat as joernalis gewerk het voor hy bekendheid as sanger en liedjieskrywer behaal het, se grootste
nalantenskap is die saadjie wat hy by Afrikaners geplant het om vrae te vra.
“As jy kyk na baie van die grootste helde in die geveg op die oomblik teen staatskaping, sal jy sien dis
Afrikaanse joernaliste. Ouens wat hul tande in daardie era of net daarna geslyp het. Dis sy politiese nalatenskap. As kun- stenaar sal dit sy liedjies wees soos “Hillbrow”, “Hoe ek voel”
en “Halala Afrika”. Absoluut tydloos.”
Hoekom is dit belangrik dat mense soos Kerkorrel se lewens gedokumenteer word? “Want die mensdom is geneig om bitter vinnig te vergeet en dan foute te
herhaal,” sê Niel. “Mense vergeet heeltemal (of het selfs nooit geweet nie) hoe baie hierdie ouens persoonlik moes opoffer om te doen wat hulle het.
Mense vergeet ook maklik hoe beklemmend die
‘goeie ou dae’ was en dan hunker hulle weer daarna en dan is haat en ver- deeldheid ’n uitvloeisel daarvan. Dis nou natuurlik derhalwe die feit dat hy ’n bitter talentvolle sanger en liedjieskrywer was.”

Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Lebohang Moabeng and Velile Dube are transplant ambassadors who are going to participate at the 2023 World Transplant Games in Perth Australia.
However, funding towards achieving this feat is difficult, hence they plea for help from the community of Matlosana and surrounding areas to assist in any capacity in order for both to achieve their dream of competing while representing their country of birth as well as their city.
Their request includes flight tickets, accommodation, food, running takkies, all these totaling to R45 000 each.
Velile was once a kidney patient in Klerksdorp Hospital for 6 years until he re- ceived a kidney in 2010 and believes he was given a second chance in life. He will be participating in long jump and petanque.
Lebohang Moabeng also had kidney failure and had to dialyze in Klerksdorp Hos- pital renal unit until he received a kidney in 2009 and his life changed for the better.
He will be participating in long jump, ball throw, petanque, 5 km power walk.
“We are hoping to go to Perth to raise the flag of our country high, we can achieve this by the help of anyone who is willing to contribute in making this journey a suc- cess,” they said.
