BRITS POS – Letlhabile - Two friends visited a local tavern and upon their return, around 01:00 on Saturday, 20 August, noticed that the Isuzu bakkie (allegedly a mining company vehicle), which was parked at the tavern, was gone.
While still in shock, two men walked up to them, one of them armed, held the victims at gunpoint and they were body searched. The suspects didn’t find anything of value and then abruptly two shots were fired of which one hit one of the victims in his thigh. The suspects fled the scene.
When SAPS members arrived at the scene, they called for an ambulance.
Cases of theft of a motor vehicle and attempted murder were registered at Letlhabile police station.
“The vehicle has not yet been found and no arrests have been made,” confirms Captain Aafje Botma, SAPS North West spokesperson.
The community is requested to forward any information on these cases to Sergeant Mashigo, SAPS Letlhabile on 078 294 2843.

Supermarket employees and customers held at gunpoint
BRITS POS – CYFERSKUIL - Three armed men surprised the employees and customers at a popular supermarket in Cyferskuil on Thursday, 19 August, around 17:25 when they were held at gunpoint and in no uncertain terms told to lie down.
Everyone was body searched and the contents of handbags thrown out and all valuables taken. To emphasise to customers the seriousness of the matter, two shots were randomly fired. They robbed the customers of their personal belongings and car keys, cleared out the cash registers and took cigarettes. The suspects fled the scene in a customer’s Ford Ranger bakkie and another shot was fired.
A business robbery case was registered at Cyferskuil police station.
“No one was injured during the robbery and one suspect was arrested. Jacob Motlhasedi (29) appeared in court on Monday, 22 August,” says Captain Aafje Botma, SAPS North West spokesperson,
“and the case has been postponed until Tuesday, 30 September, for a formal bail application.”

BRITS POS – HEBRON - A couple was asleep in their house in Itsoseng on Friday, 19 August around 01:00, when they were awoken by the sound of a window pane in their house being smashed.
Apparently seven armed suspects gained entry to the house by cutting the burglar bars. The husband tried to fend off the attackers, but three shots were fired at the victim and he succumbed to the fatal injuries sustained.
The thugs fled the scene with a plasma television set, three cellphones and cash.
“Cases of house robbery and murder
were registered at the Hebron police station and no arrests have yet been made, but the investigation is still ongoing,” says Captain Aafje Botma, SAPS North West spokesperson.

Dié vrou, wat na bewering tientalle mense uit miljoene rand geswendel het, het Maandag op een van die talle bedrogsake teen haar, in Brits landdrofhof verskyn. Selfs die bekroonde ondersoekende joernalis, Devi Sankaree Govender, van die TV-program Devi, was Maandag in die hof en is al vir ‘n geruime tyd besig om die saak te ondersoek.
BRITS POS – BRITS - On Friday, 19 August, around 17:00 a cyclist made his way to work via Railway Street in Brits.
At the railway crossing he slowed down and lifted the bicycle to ease the crossing over the railway lines.
All of a sudden, two armed men held him at gunpoint, demanding his personal belongings and bicycle. The suspects fled the scene in the direction of Damonsville with the victim’s cellphone and bicycle.
“An armed robbery case was registered at Brits police station and detectives are investigating the case,” says Capt Aafje Botma, spokesperson SAPS North West,
“although no arrest has yet been made.”
Anyone who could assist in having the perpetrators arrested and make them pay for their deplorable deeds, is requested to phone Sergeant Matome, the investigating officer at SAPS Brits on 078 338 2542.

BRITS POS – BRITS - Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd, (N4 Bakwena) is deeply saddened that a total of six vehicles were damaged from rocks/spikes along the N4 on Friday evening, 19 August between the M17 and Ga-Rankuwa.
“We do not have information on the 7th vehicle whereby it is alleged that the motorist was shot,”
says Charmaine van Wyk, Bakwena spokesperson.
“Bakwena’s route patrol provided assistance to two of the road users to change damaged tyres.
Incidents continue to happen despite best efforts by the SAPS.
“A series of patrols on our roads are carried out 24/7 by our route patrollers who remove debris, rock and spikes along the length of the route as well as assist at crash scenes together with the authorities for quicker scene clearance.
“We are not a law enforcement agency and we do not have a policing mandate – this is legislated exclusively to law enforcement agencies surrounding our area of usage.
“We work closely with the authorities such as the SA Police Services, Metropolitan Police and Provincial Traffic Authorities in Road Incident Management System forums. The forums recognise that there are spikes and rocks in the road and well as other incidents of criminality and we are constantly engaging to assist with investigations and to support the deployment of additional resources to curb incidents of this nature. We are aware that these types of incidents are being handled as priority crimes by SAPS,”

The safety of motorists using the N1N4 route remains a top priority.
In light of recent incidents Bakwena would like to share some valuable safety advice aimed at preventing motorists from falling victim to such crimes:
• As these spiking incidents are predominantly taking place at night, motorists are encouraged to travel during day time.
• In the event of travelling after dark, remain vigilant and reduce your speed as this will enable better visibility of the road ahead.
• Do not stop if you hit an object. Rather reduce your speed and try and drive as far as possible to the nearest place of safety where you can pull over and get assistance.
• Call 0800 BAKWENA / 0800 2259362 should you come across any objects along the Bakwena N1N4 route or require assistance.

Beware of rocks and spikes on N4 BAKWENA
Brits Pos het saaknommers van talle bedrogsake wat slagoffers teen haar geopen het en alhoewel sy al verskeie kere in die landdrosfhowe verskyn het, het reg en geregtigheid volgens die klaers nog nie geskied nie.
“Sy is ‘n bedrieër en leuenaar wat met haar skelm taktiek telkens daarin slaag om reg en geregtigheid om haar pinkie te draai,” beweer een van die slagoffers wat uit bykans R2 miljoen geswendel is.
Na wat verneem word, het sy mense regoor die land belieg en bedrieg. Daar is onder andere bedrogsake van ingevoerde motors en ander ingevoerde produkte waarvoor sy na bewering geld ontvang het, maar waarvan die produkte nooit gelewer is nie. Daar word beweer dat sy glo nie eens oor die nodige invoerregistrasies en -dokumente beskik nie.
Die vrou se bedrogspul het ook onder die aandag van Devi Sankaree Govender, ‘n bekroonde ondersoekende joernalis, van die TV-program Devi, gekom en Maandag was die TV-span by die Brits landdrofshof, maar ook dié saak van bedrog teen die beskuldigde is tot September uitgestel.
Woensdag, 24 Augustus was die verdagte wéér in die hof. Sy het glo na bewering ‘n tydelike beskermingsbevel teen ‘n betrokke slagoffer gekry en dié persoon wou Woensdag die bevel teenstaan. Die vrou (bedrieër) het die tydelike beskermingsbevel teen haar slagoffer gekry omdat sy glo “bang” is vir die persoon. Dit nadat die vrou bykans R2 miljoen rand se toerusting en voorraad by die persoon gekoop het en dit van die perseel verwyder het. Sy het wel bewyse van betalings gelewer, maar volgens die slagoffer was dit telkens vervalste bankbewyse.
Wat die vrou se vermeende bedrogspul in die betrokke saak nog meer slinks maak, is dat sy die klaer se goedere en toerusting na bewering op veiling verkoop of wou
verkoop het en toe die slagoffer van dit te hore kom en die eiendom terugeis, het die vrou agter die tydelike beskermingsbevel geskuil.
Dié saak is Woensdag uitgestel na 24 Oktober, omdat die vrou se prokureur glo na bewering nie die hofsaak kon bywoon nie en
‘n plaaslike korrespondent is aangestel en dié was glo onvoorbereid.
“Dit gaan my verstand te bowe dat so
‘n slinkse mens onder ons oë mense links en regs bedrieg en steeds op vrye voet is,”
sê die slagoffer. “Ek is maar een van vele mense wat deur haar uit miljoene rand geswendel is, maar ek glo dat die langarm van die gereg sal seëvier.”
Suster Antoinette Grobler (78), maar alombekend as Grobbie en verpleegsuster
by Brits Hospice, is op 16 Augustus 2022 oorlede. Sy was soos ‘n wyse uil in Brits en die gemeenskap en haar passie vir verpleging
gedurende dié 60 jaar, waarvan sy meer as 20 jaar by Hospice betrokke was, sal opreg gemis word. Sy is nou vry, maar sy laat ‘n groot leemte in die lewens van mense wat sy aangeraak het. Haar roudiens het reeds

BRITS POS – BRITS – Lede van Brits se VLU het nie minder nie as vier eerste plekke, asook die prys vir die tak wat die meeste nuwe lede in 2022 gewerf het, tydens die 27ste kongres van die Noordwes Vroue Landbou-unie ontvang.
Die kongres het vanjaar op 17 en 18 Augustus in Potchefstroom plaasgevind en is deur afgevaardigdes en waarnemers van 26 takke van regoor die hele Noordwes bygewoon.
Brits-tak is deur die Platina voorsitter (en ook lid van Brits- tak), Louise Herbst, Neeltje Louw (voorsitter), Fia van der Merwe (vise-voorsitter) en vier waarnemers verteenwoordig.
Die kongres is ook vereer met die teenwoordigheid van die Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Landbou-unie (SAVLU) se president, Cindy Coetzee en die voorsitterstoel is deur NWVLU-president, Gerda Swart hanteer.
Woensdag was die geleentheidspreker Minette Dempsey en sy het haar gehoor laat skaterlag met die interessante tema “Wie sorg vir die sorggewer.”
Dr Sanet Jansen van Rensburg het gaste toegespreek oor die belangrikheid om bejaardes te koester.
Gedurende die loop van die dag het die prysuitdeling plaasgevind en Brits-tak stap weg met vier eerste pryse, ‘n derde en ‘n 6de prys. Die pryswenners is Fia van der Merwe (1ste met Skilderkuns), Elaine Smit (1ste met Fotografie), Carien Roos (1ste met Breiwerk) en Louise Herbst (1ste met Handvlyt).

Brits het ook die kontantprys gewen vir die tak wat die meeste nuwe lede (15) sedert die begin van die jaar, gewerf het.
Die bestuur van Brits-tak maak van die geleentheid gebruik om elke nuwe lid, asook die jarelange lede hartlik vir hul harde werk en lojaliteit te bedank.

“Verskillende spesies wortelbome het verskillende asemwortels waardeur hul suurstof uit die lug opneem,”
vertel Francis. “Eerstens is daar die stutwortels wat by die Rhiziphora- spesies aangetref word. Die stutwortels
word aan die onderkant van die stam en aan die onderste takke aangetref.
Tweedens het die Brugeria-spesies weer kniewortels (wortels wat uit die grond groei en met ‘n knak of knie weer terug in die grond groei) wat bo die grond uitsteek. Derdens is daar ook snorkel- of potlootwortels wat reguit uit die grond opgroei. Hierdie wortels stel die bome in staat om suurstof
op te neem deur openinge (lentiselle) aan die wortels. Sonder die merkwaardige wortels sal die wortelbome nie kan oorleef in die suurstofarme moeras nie.”

“By sommige spesies word ryp sade vanaf die boom versprei deur wind.
Wanneer die sade op die water val, dryf dit rond totdat dit ‘n geskikte plek kry om te ontkiem.

‘n baie ongewone verskynsel in die planteryk. Hierdie wortelbome ontwikkel kiemplantjies wat van die boom afval en in die water beland en dan vir maande kan ronddryf totdat hul ‘n tuiste vind. Die manier hoe die plantjie dryf,
gee dit die beste kans om ‘n tuiste te vind. On Wednesday, 17 August I visited the Lion & Safari Park in Broederstroom, Hartbeespoort with my six-year-old daughter.
At bedtime that evening she asked for her leopard cub soft toy, which we couldn’t find anywhere. Around 07:00, before the park even officially opened on Thursday, I made a phone call to the park and Marius
Annandale, the Operations Manager answered the phone. I told him about the dilemma and without hesitance he immediately offered to contact
the personnel at the play park to check if the toy could be found. To be honest, I doubted if they would have any success, but low and behold, within 10 minutes he returned my call and told me that the ‘cub’
was rescued and ready for collection.
Thank you, Marius and team, for your professionalism and healing my
daughter’s broken heart in an instant.

BRITS POS – HARTBEESPOORT - Stage Two of the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE was held at the picturesque Van Gaalen Cheese Farm outside Hartbeespoort on Sunday 21 August 2022.
Boasting a shorter approximately 16km route, Stage Two had a tougher 4.7km mid-section that was a good learning experience for the flagship event. The rest of the stage featured easy to moderate trails that were a lot of fun, while the last 3km was super-fast.
Retsepile Khotle (Alberton, Gauteng) and Anneleen Swanepoel (Centurion) continued their winning streaks by securing Stage Two victories in deserving times of 01 hour 10 minutes 30 seconds and 01 hour 34 minutes 03 seconds respectively. For the full set of results visit https://bit.ly/

Sy het in die ouderdomsgroep van 11 jaar, aan die balk, brug, vloer en spronge deelgeneem. Na afloop van die kampioenskappe het sy goud in vloer en ‘n bronsmedalje in brug behaal. Kayleigh het ook ‘n algehele derde plek in die ouderdomsgroep behaal en so haar Noordweskleure verwerf. Sy gaan in Oktober in Pretoria aan Suid-Afrikaanse gimnastiek-kampioenskappe deelneem.

Wolverines going in for the tackle
BRITS POS – BRITS – The players of Wolverines Rugby Club made their mark in the Blue Bulls Carlton Reserve, President’s League and u.20 Shield competition in just their second year of existence.
According to the chairman, Fanie Slabbert, this was an exceptional
milestone because all five teams qualified for their respective league semi-
finals. The Wolverines u.20 competed against Tuine last Friday, the Northam Wolverines reserve league 3rd and 4th team competed against Noordelikes 1st and Westelikes 2nd team respectively.
The president’s league semi-final was contested between the Wolverines 1st and 2nd team against the defending champion TUT 1st team and Correctional Services 2nd team.
This semi-final round produced mixed results with the u.20 losing 32-03 to the defending champions Tuine u.20, the Northam Wolverines 3rd team lost 24-16 to NDR 1st team and the Northam Wolverines 4th team lost 24–06 against Westelikes 2nd team. However, the Wolverines 1st team won 75–08 against the defending champions TUT 1st team and the Wolverines 2nd team won
85–07 against Correctional Service 2nd team. “Although three teams had to bend the knee to their opposition, we are very proud of the teams that made it to the semi-finals in their first year on the league,” says Fanie Slabbert. The Wolverines Rugby Club pride themselves that the 1st and 2nd teams will be contesting against Correctional Services 1st team and Bronkies 2nd team in the final at Loftus Versfeld for championship status, with this achievement the
Wolverines Rugby Club 1st team will be playing in a promotion/relegation match against Impala Rugby Club for Carlton League status on 17 September 2022, in Rustenburg. New players are welcome to join the Wolverines. Practice is every Tuesday and Thursday from 17:30 to 19:00 at the Millstream River Estate in Skeerpoort.
