FREE Ward 17

residents to the rescue

Residents, Councillors and members of Agapé Congregation in Ward 17 took to the streets on Saturday morning in an annual joint venture to uplift Ward 17. Potholes were repaired, the environment benefitted from a “pic- it-up” exercise and grass and overgrowth were cut following an above average rainfall season. This was all part of Agapé Congregation’s annual environment day. The programme was organised by Cllr Tanya Rothman and saw close to 100 residents turning up or at least contributing towards the project. One of the most deserving operations in the programme was the repair of a dangerous pothole in Cuckoo Avenue by at least 20 enthusiastic young “contractors”. In spite of badly congested traffic during the early Saturday morning peak hour, motorists were waving in appreciation and gratitude.

Service providers lockdown municipality due to alleged non payment

BONUS - RUSTENBURG - All entry points to the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Missionary Mpheni house were blocked by disgruntled service providers and sub contractors on Monday morning (9 May), who alleged that the municipality has not paid them for the services that they rendered.

At the time the Rustenburg Herald arrived at the scene, dozens of workers could not gain entry to the building to do their work.

Mr Thapelo Matebesi, spokesperson of the municipality said the protesters demanded the Municipal Manager to resolve their issues before they could open the gates for workers to continue with their duties.

“Service providers/sub-contractors locked all entry points to the municipality head office in protest , alleging non-payment for their services rendered to the Municipality.

They demand that Municipal Manager, Mr Victor Makona must come and address them, to give them assurance of payment, they will then open the gates,” explained Matebesi.
