HERE was a large and edhusiastic gathering present at th~

Emmanuel Hall in Port Elizabeth on Thursday evening, the 16th ult., on the occa:>ion of a farewell reception given to Mr.

and M1·s. B. Wein- ronk who embarked the 'following Mo;i.- day evening on the

"Dunluce Ca. tle" for Palestine.

Mr. S. Abrahams ( Chainnan of the Or- thodox Hebrew Con- gregation) presided and declared that the function that evening

wa~ organised by the united Jewish com- munity of Port Eliza- beth as a token of the esteem in which their guests were held.

The Chairman then gave interesting facts about the life of Mr. Weinronk and called attention to the devotion displayed b\' him and his wife on behalf of communal and Zionist e::- deavour. He trusted that their trip to Palestine would be a happy one and assured them of the great respect in which they were held by their fellow-Jews throughout the country.

Weinronk were paicl by Councillor A. Schau<ler and the Rev. S.

Levy.

Mr. David Dainow (who was on a short visit to Port Eliza- beth), extended greetings to Mr. and Mrs. Weinronk on be- half of the S.A. Zionist Federation.

On rising to reply, Mr. Weinronk, who was given a cordial reception, expressed thanks for the tributes paid to him that evening.

During the function, Miss Ellen Cowen danced attractively;

Mr. Leon Mirkin played the 'cello in brilliant fashion and Mrs.

Fridjon demonstrated her great ability and technique as a violi11ist. The singing of Miss Lilly Blumenthal of Die Du_dele

•aroused great enthusiasm. This fine song was rend~red m a most artistic style by an artist who p~ssesses a highly cul- tured and gifted soprano voice. The artists were ably accom- panied on the piano by Mr. Marcus Levy.

the S.A. Zionist Federation.

For the convenience of the passengers. arrange- ments have been made with the railway authorities for the train to leave Park Station on Monday evening, at 6.55 p.m., to arrive at the docks alongside the boat at 1.35 p.m., on Tuesday.

The United Shekel Commi sion have all arrange- ments in hand and in a few days' time a circular letter will be issued to all Zionist societies and representa- tives throughout the country giving all particulars, and the necessary supply of Shekolim will be sent out to all centres. In the meantime every centre, large or small, is asked to go ahead with arrangements so as

to

ensure a record sale of Shekolim this year.

The larger centres are particularly urged to lose no time in taking the necessary organisation in hand so as to enlist an adequate and effective body of workers to approach every Jew and Jewess in town and district to show their adherence to the national ideal

by

buying the Shekel.

Dr. Landau to Preach at the Beth Hamedrasit Hagodel.

We have been asked to announce that Chief Rabbi Dr. J. L. Landau is to preach on Sunday afternoon next. February 4th, at 5 p.m., at the Beth Hamedrash Hagodel.

This is the first occasion on which Dr. Landau has occupied the pulpit at the Beth Hamedrash.
