Currently, the most notable and controversial PMC in the international community is probably the Wagner Group. According to Parens71, the Wagner group in Mali followed "the same plan" that the contractor used in the Central African Republic and Sudan.

South Africa’s Military Deployment to Northern Mozambique: Lessons from the United States of

America’s (Mis)Adventure in Afghanistan

However, it is of critical importance for South Africa not to miss the ethno-religious side of the conflict in Mozambique. One of the goals of the US mission in Afghanistan was to flush out the Taliban.

Swans of the 70s

The First Women of the South African Navy’s Permanent Force

In 1965, the Mossop Commission was appointed to investigate the employment of women in the PF as a result of the ongoing manpower shortage. Most male officers and men welcomed the use of women in the Navy during the early 1970s, in fact the Chief of the Navy, Vice Admiral HH Biermann, was a major proponent. She had to wait until April 1974 to join the Navy when she was transferred and appointed as the Swans' first Senior Staff Officer (SSO).

At the time approximately 300 women served in the SAN PF - a small but very noticeable six per cent of the Navy's total complement.237. 1, Administration Recruitment of Women's Defense Corps, Chief of the Navy letter, VSH 1/55/12, dated 15 March 1974, Accommodation: SA Vlootdames.

Perceived Barriers Affecting Adherence to Healthy Eating and Exercise Guidelines among Obese

National Defence Force

A thorough review of the literature of perceived barriers to following healthy eating and exercise guidelines was conducted as part of the design of the questionnaire. The mean and standard deviation (SD) of the 17 items of the barriers to healthy eating subscale are reported in Table 2. There was no significant association between any of the sociodemographic variables and the perceived barriers to healthy eating and physical. activity.

The majority of participants were non-commissioned officers and did not have a tertiary qualification (which is not a requirement for non-commissioned officers). 324 N Eikenberry & C Smith, 'Healthful Eating: Perceptions, Motivations, Barriers and Promoters in Low-income Minnesota Communities', Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

Dieter Felix Gerhardt: A Case Study of Russian Espionage in South Africa

Magnus Malan, former head of the SADF and South African Defense Minister states in his book My Life in the SA Defense Force, Dieter Gerhardt was predisposed to espionage because. At the time of his arrest, Gerhardt was the commanding officer of the Simon City Naval Base. 367 Statement on the Dieter Gerhardt-Ruth Johr spying incident by a former director of the CI/CE Directorate General of the South African intelligence services to researchers.

Russian efforts to undermine South Africa were in the name of advancing communism. In the second half of the 20th century, both countries respected the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of South Africa with considerable irregularities.

The Implication of Corruption to Nigeria’s Internal Security

Insights from Selected Security Agencies

It then discusses forms of abuse in aspects of the operations of the Nigerian Army (NA), the Nigerian Correctional (Prison) Service, and their implications for internal security in the country. The 1987 report of the Nigerian Political Bureau provides a vivid description of the extent of corruption in the country. Structural theory focuses on the nature of the state and the character of the ruling class.

529 There has been work on the prison and correctional aspects of the police's internal security functions in the state. Among the four subjects that are dealt with, a review of the budget allocations to the Ministry of the Interior is important.

The Worst Military Leaders in History

The result was a book reporting on the lives and careers of 15 military leaders who could be classified as the "worst military leaders". Although most military biographies focus on well-known military leaders, I found the discussions in this book fascinating and refreshing, mixing some of the lesser-known military leaders with more famous ones. Although some of the leaders discussed in the book seem - in my opinion - somewhat undeserving of the title "worst military leader".

Each military leader discussed in this book would be a wonderful case study that could be used to stimulate class discussions and promote awareness of qualities that are undesirable in military leaders. In addition, the chaotic and ambiguous nature of war is emphasized, emphasizing the need to prepare and empower future military leaders with the skills, attributes, and attitudes necessary to deal with warfare.

Johnny O’Neil

But even from this perspective, the book emphasizes not only the need for the selection and development of certain qualities in future officers, but also what to avoid. As highlighted by Robbins' review in the September 2022 issue of Army Magazine, the book focuses on the characters of individual leaders – something that is always important to psychologists.580 All case studies emphasize the importance of personality, judgment, and skills at the tactical, operational and strategic levels for military commanders, and the fact that an individual may be extremely successful as a military commander at the tactical level, but he or she may not necessarily perform well at the operational or strategic level where different skills are required. necessary for successful leadership. Overall, I would recommend this book to military historians, but more specifically to practitioners who can use it as a tool to illustrate the requirements for military leaders and to develop critical thinking among students of military leadership.

To Rule the Skies: General Thomas S. Power and the Rise of Strategic Air Command in the Cold War

In 1948 Power was appointed Vice Commander of the SAC and served under General Curtis E LeMay, then Commander in Chief of the Strategic Air Command (CINCSAC) of the USAF. To Rule the Skies was reviewed by many high-ranking USAF officers close to the proverbial operational rock wall of the SAC; any additional material will be redundant. It provides highlights of each chapter of the book in a way that is clear and easy to understand - from Power's early childhood to his entry into the Flying Cadet program, and the role he played in building up the USAF and especially the SAC.

Ziarnick discusses the power's role as CINCSAC during the difficult years of the Cold War through the various contributions it made to the post-World War II US buildup. The book also covers General Power's role as a member of the Air Research and Development Council and the challenges he faced during this period.

Dr (Col.) Alan J Nelson (ret.) Independent researcher

In summary, To Rule the Skies is a well-constructed and concisely written book that provides a balanced combination of textual explanations and well-presented arguments in support of placing General Power and the SAC in the proper historical context of both the USAF and National Space. Program. Although the book is aimed at a USAF and US aerospace audience, it is recommended for African defense organizations, air force decision makers and their air commanders to read further as they continue their strategic planning for the use of modern technologies in consider aerospace science as a foundation. future operational need. Russia: Revolution and Civil War 1917–1921

The opposition to the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin and Trotsky, increased when they took control in October 1917. Ultimately, Beevor examines the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and subsequent civil war, which left the country in a state of disarray. He describes the government's efforts to spread the revolution to other countries, including the founding of the Communist International.

In conclusion, Anthony Beevor's Russia, Revolution and Civil War 1917–1921 is a masterful work that provides a thorough and detailed overview of one of the most significant eras in Russian history. His analysis of the Russian Revolution and subsequent Civil War provides important insights into the events, actors, and key factors that shaped the creation of the Soviet Union.

Despite these internal struggles, the Bolsheviks also faced external challenges from foreign powers such as Britain, France and the United States, which supported the White Army. The escalating civil war and ongoing struggle for control in Russia are covered in subsequent chapters. In the east, Admiral Kolchak's White Army launched an offensive in Siberia and captured important cities and regions.

However, this initial success was short-lived and the Red Army, led by Mikhail Tukhachevsky, launched a counter-offensive that pushed the Whites back and regained lost territory. He also discusses the various conflicts that arose between the Soviet Union and its neighbors, namely Poland and the newly formed Baltic states.

External Missions: The ANC in Exile

Several internal and external factors, such as the Soweto Uprising and the end of the Cold War,586 were integral ingredients that led to South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994. Ellis's main conclusions are that the methodological underpinnings That led to the collapse of the National Party is what is currently collapsing the ruling ANC and their failure to see, examine and deal with reality as it really is - the reality of the country of South Africa. The strength of this book is that it provides a detailed, step-by-step explanation with evidence of the political developments in South Africa that led to the unbanning of the ANC and the success of the liberation struggle.

It contains personal accounts of members of the ANC and lists documents that are accessible. The weakness of this book is that some of the documents mentioned here are no longer publicly available for download.

Phumza Precious Mbobo University of the Free State

One therefore needs to do a thorough search to find and confirm that the information in this book is indeed true. In conclusion, Stephen Ellis descriptively shows how the current South African society came under the leadership of the ANC and with careful observation one can easily foresee a future where the ANC will lose power as the current government in South Africa unless some major changes are made and implemented so that it current generation can benefit when it comes to solving problems of unemployment, poverty, opportunities to study and the growth of this beautiful country. 583 Ellis states that the ANC national executive's decision to turn a blind eye to the formation of a new militant organization paved the way for a discussion held by the joint executive of the entire Congress Alliance, which met for just one day. later in Durban.

585 In the context of being in exile in Tanzania, a disillusioned Zulu cadre wrote: “Everyone with Kongwa's experience agreed on the existence of tribes in the camp: There was less pressure and more reluctance to take disciplinary action when the people who spoke Xhosa. involved than in the case of Zulu-speaking people'. Ellis argues that “The cold reality was that school boycotts condemned a generation of largely poor South Africans to almost no education, which did not help their material chances of earning a decent living in the future, nor did it improve the sense their self-esteem.
