Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp - ‘n Dringende raadsvergadering is op Dinsdagoggend 19 Julie belê na die nuus die vorige dag bekendgeword het dat Eskom op die stad se bankrekenings beslag kan lê.
Die Vryheidsfront Plus het die vergadering aangevra nadat Eskom ʼn bevel in die Johan- nesburgse Hooggeregshof bekragtig het wat bepaal dat die kragverskaff er op die bankreke- nings beslag kan lê om uitstaande skuld in te vorder. Matlosana skuld Eskom reeds sowat R1,1-miljard. Die skuld het tot hierdie enorme bedrag opgehoop nadat Matlosana vir jare verskeie afbetalingsooreenkomste met Eskom verontagsaam het.
Volgens rdl Fanie Kloppers van die VF+ het die hele raad vir die eerste keer hul eis ge- steun dat daar dringend ‘n volhoubare fi nansiële herstelplan ter tafel gelê moet word. “Hierdie beslaglegging op die bankrekenings kan die hele munisipaliteit lam lê,’’ het hy gesê.
Hy het bygevoeg dat die bevel die direkte gevolg van jarelange fi nansiële wanbestuur en die laksheid van die ANC-beheerde munisipa- liteit is. “Die feit dat hierdie eens trotse muni- sipaliteit nou op sy knieë by Eskom om grasie moet smeek, is ʼn absolute skande.”
Johan Oosthuizen van die Matlosana Sakekamer het gesê dit is hoogtyd dat die sage tussen Eskom en Matlosana afgehandel word.
“Matlosana het sy eie gat gegrawe deur agter die wet te probeer wegkruip en nou sit ons [die gemeenskap] weer met die gemors. Hulle het geld spandeer op hofsake in plaas van Eskom te betaal. Elke keer is beloftes gemaak, maar sodra die stof gaan lê dan keer alles terug soos dit was. As ‘n sakekamer het ons herhaaldelik hulp aangebied om foute te probeer regstel. Die leierskorps sal moet na binne kyk om te hierdie munisipaliteit van ondergang te red.’’
Die munisipaliteit het nie op versoeke om kommentaar gereageer nie.

Bernice West, Riaan Benade, Bok van Blerk en Early B sal die verhoog deel met Van Pletzen, Reen, Rooksein en Droom Sindroom.
Plaaslike name soos Simeon Kriel en Leandri Day sal ook deur die naweek op- tree.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Jouberton is on high alert following the assassination of Al Qaeda gang leader Poul Ndamoyi (40) on Friday morning July 15 in ext 16.
Members of the community fear that the worst could happen leading to his funeral the coming weekend.
On Sunday afternoon July 17, Pelindaba Drive, Jabulani Street and Ntlangano Street were blocked with burning tyres, large rocks and rubble. The fear is that violence can break out between opposing gangs, Al Qaeda and Boko Haram as resi- dents reported gunshots could be heard from different parts of the township.
Facebook was abuzz with photos and comments from people who were saddened and shocked by
the notorious gang leader’s mur- der, while others described him as a criminal. He was affectionately known as Nguzo, Ghost or Monkey.
The police launched a manhunt after he was gunned down in broad daylight.
According to Brig Sabatha Mok- gwabone, police spokesperson, Ndamoyi was standing next to his car, chatting to someone when three men exited a white Toyota Quantum minibus without registration number and opened fi re. Ndamoyi died in a hail of bullets.
The victim’s family spokesman Marumo Modieginyana said they are saddened by his death.
“Poul was a gentleman, a straight- talker and did not mince words when he wanted to say something.
“He was a respectful person and very choosy when associating with people. He was very religious in his
statement.”
He said as a family they are hurt by the brutal and senseless murder of their brother and wish that his assasins are apprehen- ded.
His brother, Moseki Ndamoyi said the community will miss him for his eff orts lately of stopping crime in his township.
Ndamoyi is survived by three children, a daughter and two boys.
The North West police spokes- man Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the motive of the incident is yet to be determined and investigation into the matter is underway.
In the meanwhile, Jouberton is holding its breath for the funeral this weekend.
At the time of going to print, it was reported that two men were arrested for the murder of Poul Ndamoyi.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The mother of former Matlosana Executive Mayor China Dodovu passed away a few days before her 80
thbirthday.
Justina Mabele Dodovu died on her son’s birthday on Tuesday July 12. She would have turned 80 years old on Satur- day July 16.
The former mayor spent his birth- day with her in hospital where she passed away “a few minutes before the day ended’’. “I knew she was no more, but in our grief we smiled knowing that the angels were happy to receive her,’’ he said.
She was a prominent member of the Catholic Church where she
served as the Chairperson of the St Anne Sodality Women’s League.
“As her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and all our immediate fa- mily members, we are going to miss her:
her love, nurturing, protection, decency, sincerity, humility and her unremitting love, undiminishing vitality, uncompromi- sing discipline and sweet melodies will
stay with us forever.
“So, through our tears, we see bless- ings of being brought up by her,’’ Dodovu said in paying tribute to his mother.
Mama Dodovu is survived by five sons, one daughter, 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral will take place on Saturday July 23 at the St Pe- ters Catholic Church in Jouberton.
Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - The fore- court of a filling station was turned into a crime scene when a group of men opened fire on a Nigerian businessman.
This is hot on the heels of the murder of a night club owner, also a Nigerian, two weeks ago in Stilfontein. The police are looking for three men who shot and wounded Peter Okye on Saturday July 16.
According to Brig Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, the victim was at a filling
station when three balaclava-wearing men opened fire.
“Okye managed to flee from the scene to the nearby bushes where he was ultimately found and taken to hospital. He was shot in his shoulder with a 9 mm pistol.”
No arrests have been made yet. “The victim is not the brother of a night club owner assas- sinated in the town two weeks ago, as was initially thought. They only share a nationality,”
said Mokgwabone. Investigation continues.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - An investiga- tion into a multi-million rand IT tender at the Moretele Municipality has gleaned enough evi- dence to warrant the arrest of its former municipal manager Tsietsi Roger Nkhumise who until May this year was Matlosana’s Accounting Officer.
Nkhumise is no stranger to allegations of il- legal activity. After two years in his Klerksdorp office (2019), residents demanded that he be removed as municipal manager because he has a criminal record related to tax. He denied these allegations. Then followed allegations of tender irregularities in a number of contracts that were awarded. He was arrested in 2020 in relation to an R8-million tender for the supply and delivery of paraffin for indigent communities yet he still managed to hold on to his position.
This, according to the DA’s Freddy Sonakile is a “perfect example of how the ANC’s cadre de- ployment policy is a cancer to society”. He said the ANC redeployed and appointed Nkhumise as Matlosana’s MM despite the fraud charges that were hanging over his head when he left the Moretele Municipality.
After raiding the City of Matlosana munici- pal offices in December 2020, the SIU found evidence that the municipality overpaid PPE service providers under the watch of Nkhumise.
He was then slapped with a final written warn - ing while the criminal referral to the NPA is still pending, said Sonakile.
This week the SIU welcomed Nkhumise’s arrest for his alleged involvement in rewarding a tender to the tune of approximately R215 mil - lion to a company to render ICT services to the Moretele Municipality that is largely rural.
The municipality inherited the contract for ICT services from Madibeng Local Municipality.
According to Kaizer Kganyago, head of stake - holder relations and communications at the SIU,
the SIU probe revealed that Moretele is paying way more than what Madibeng paid the same company for a similar service.
The SIU has instituted a civil action in the Spe- cial Tribunal to review and set aside the contract.
This will pave way for the State’s only anti-cor - ruption, forensic investigation and civil litigation agency to recover financial losses suffered by the municipality due to negligence and corruption.
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Several incidents where gunshots were fired near Randlespark along Goueweg to the old no 4 shaft were reported last week.
Klerksdorp Record was told that illegal miners are involved in a turf war that could escalate in the co- ming weeks.
Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, confirmed that four il- legal miners, known as zama zamas were arrested on Thursday July 14.
One of the men was wounded in a shootout with security officers near no 4 shaft.
According to the police a semi- automatic shotgun and 18 rounds of ammunition were found at the side of the injured man.
“A group of approximately 100 il- legal miners were spotted by security near no 4 shaft. Some of the zama zamas opened fire on the officers of Specialised Services Group (SSG) and they returned fire,’’ Brig Mokg - wabone said.
That is when the police’s illicit mi- ning task team mobilised and joined SSG at the scene. The wounded man was arrested and taken to hos- pital where he is under police guard.
“The operation also led to the arrest of three more suspects. Two firearms and ammunition were confiscated from them,’’ he added.
They were charged with three counts of attempted murder, another three of unlawful possession of fire - arms and ammunition, and one of malicious damage to property.
The suspects are also facing ad- ditional charges of contravention of the Immigration Act.
The North West Provincial Com- missioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked all the members and security officers for their cooperation which led to the arrest and confisca - tion of the firearms and ammunition.
He strongly warned that illicit eco- nomic activities will not be tolerated and that those involved, will be dealt with harshly.

Matlosana Municipality is sinking deeper and deeper in its own manure. Now that Eskom has control of its bank accounts the ANC might just as well turn off the lights and go home. Thanks, your job is done here.
When Eskom threatened to remove Klerksdorp from the grid due to non- payment we never thought it will actual- ly happen. Because, you know, it just couldn’t. Then we were hit with this curve ball: Seizing the municipality’s bank ac- counts. What a sad, sad day in our town’s history. On the bright side, at least we have power (permitting load shedding of course).
We won’t have much else though. Ser- vice delivery can come to a total standstill in coming months while Eskom takes its share of R1 billion in outstanding money.
What’s left will probably not be enough to run a municipality.
This all happened under the watch of the ruling party. The majority of council who decided to put up a fi ght against Es- kom and in return shot themselves in the leg. Lesson learned we hope. Pay your debtors and stop fi ghting losing battles.
Actually, this is one of that I told you so moments. Just not as sweet a moment as we thought it would be. No one wins, everyone loses (except Eskom and the legal team).
One thing we can be thankful for is that Eskom decided to take the money box and not the box with the on/off switch.
This happened under the ANC’s watch. Remember it.

What is the sense to request any objec- tion to the amendments to be lodged in wri- ting with the acting MM, within 30 days of July 8, after the budget had already been ap- proved?
Should the request not have been made prior to Council’s approval? It is like closing the gate, after the horse has bolted.
The advertisement does not state: “the date on which the determination will come into operation”, that is according to Municipal legislation at least 30 days after the Council resolution on June 15, 2022.
