scribing in detail the delicate little tale. A. "Luigi Goldfanti," l\Ir. Guy Bates Post plays with wonderful discretion and control a:l'i _presents a picture ot affectic r.ate and intere'Jted age that is as delightfol as it 1s ~musual. At times he occupies the stage without "!.tttfrance and ."l't the audience i never wearier!. Lut :llJ1i of intrigu~

~iderable difficulty to portray but whetlier as the young coquette or as the emotional actress her work is marked by a delicacy and restraint that is worthy of the hi0'11est commendation. There are only two other p~rts, that of l\1r. Denni Gordan as ''Pietro," the son of the old sinO'ing maGter, a pianist of consider2.ble ability whose renderino·r, are much enjoyed by the lover, ''John Raymond,'' -played by l\Ir. Gerald Pring with as much import-

ance as the part itself is invested with. The play i admir::ihly staged and clres ed in the manner of

prese~1t-da;~ life in America-a style all its own-

~nd while not being calculated to engender great id -<~B or conniclerable thought is yet calculated to leaye a pleasant impression behind.

The Empire.

The la, t week. of Bert Ralton's HaYana Band are announced and this week their programme includes

"IloneY Bunch,'' "Ro. e of St. :l\Iarv's," "Horse , ''

"What did I tell ya?'' "Chine.e Moon," "I won- der where my Baby i. to-night?" "l\Iarimha Solo anrl Speak'' CW altz), etc. The rendering of the

"Hush-Hush" Charleston by M'Lita Dolores and lier brother are much enjoyed and we trust that their tep will take the place of that presently used locally. The new comers are Wright and Marion who are burle que comedy, singing and dancing arti tes, the Dalton Sisters in a pot-pourri of '' l\foderni ms '' vocal numbers, instrumental items and dancing, and Ted Huxter described as the in- {"briate reveller. Amongst those who continue

·their ucce ses are 1\1: 'lita Dolores who is as "chic"

and as charming as ever, Chris Richards with his tCcentricities and The Doves in their delightfully g-raceful gymnastic feats.

Next Week's Prodction-An Opportunity.

The Jewish community 0£ Johannesburg have al- way been ju tly proud of the fact that they are amon()' the principal upporter of the musical life

•or "The Girl in the Taxi," a production which is to occupy the 1 tandard next week. :..,or no man ha done. m01'e in the cause of music in outh Afri- ca than ha ~fr. Wendt, and eYery lover of music ':ill be glad of the opportunity of showing his gra-

The 'book," written originally a a farce, i. far in front of the usual musical comedy in situation and "point,'' and the Cabaret cene especially af- fords plenty 0£ fun and laughter.

The ca t of the play, and the fad that the pro- duction is in the capable hands of Mr. Fred Oovne, and the mu ic is being directed by Mr. Wendt him~
