HIER HELP ONS HEKEL

‘n 30 uur marathon!

Beeetroot at Santai, Kroonpark, De Kroon en 4 the love of yarn – Alettastraat 7, Brits.

WhatsApp Monique by 082 682 6964, of Leandra by 082 451 4548 vir meer inligting oor die projek of indien jy graag betrokke wil raak.

“Exercise caution when responding to social media and online advertisements”

BRITS POS – BRITS - Police management in the province would like to urge unsuspecting members of the community to exercise caution when responding to online advertisements as criminals are coming up with more tricks to scam citizens.

The warning stems from numerous social media scams and other online advertisements.

“In the latest incident reported on Saturday, 15 April 2023, the victim saw an advertisement for a sale of a Toyota

Quantum on Facebook,” says Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone. “He made contact with the seller who purported to be the lawful owner.

A meeting was arranged in Tswelelang Location, Wolmaransstad where the

prospective buyer took the vehicle for a test drive. An agreement was subsequently reached and the victim drove with the owner to collect the necessary documentation and in the process, they allegedly offered hitchhikers a lift. However, the said hitchhikers robbed the potential buyer of his cellphone and forced him out of the vehicle.” The public is therefore urged

to be vigilant of social media and online advertisements. Should they become suspicious, they are advised to contact the nearest police station. Prospective buyers are requested to buy from reputable and registered car dealers, not to carry large amounts of cash nor pay money in cash during transactions, but rather opt for an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

BRITS POS – HEBRON - A resident at Moseja Section, Hebron was asleep on Saturday, 22 April and woke up around midnight, when the door to his room was forced open and four armed males entered, holding him at gunpoint and demanding a firearm and cellphones.

The suspects then ransacked the room, taking an iPhone, cellphone, microwave and the keys of the victim’s VW Golf 7, fired one shot and took off in the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Soshanguve.

A case of house robbery was opened at SAPS Hebron. SAPS Brits spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde said that anyone who has information, can call the Investigating Officer, Sgt Happy Mahlaule at 082 500 5254.

Man murdered by brother-in-law

BRITS POS – OUKASIE - On Saturday, 22 April around 06:30 Brits police received information of mob justice at a house in Phase 1, Oukasie in Brits.

The suspect was arrested and detained.

A murder case was opened at Brits police station

“Marema appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 April and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Friday, 28 April,” says Maria Nkabinde, SAPS Brits spokesperson.

As couple gets lost, robbers strike

BRITS POS – HEBRON - A couple from Limpopo were on their way to a funeral on Friday, 21 April around 22:00 in their white Ford Ranger bakkie to Erasmus, but got lost and then phoned the male victim’s brother who said they must wait, he will come to fetch them at Hebron Technical and Commercial High School where they phoned from.

Suddenly a vehicle passed them and made a U-turn, but it wasn’t his brother as expected, but two males got out of the vehicle and held the couple at gunpoint, forcing them into the back seat of the bakkie.

The couple was dropped off at an intersection to Soshanguve and Winterveldt and the suspects took off in the couple’s bakkie. On foot they found

a church where they spent the night.

The suspects got away with the vehicle, bank cards, two cellphones and clothes and R15 000 cash was withdrawn from the man’s bank account.

Anyone with information can contact the Investigating Officer on the case, Sgt Hendrick Zenzi of Rustenburg Vehicle Crimes Investigating Unit on 082 661 2919.

BRITS POS – MAKAPANSTAD - A female (27) was travelling in her Chevrolet Aveo on the Makapanstad Road on Friday, 21 April around 20:00, when she heard a gunshot which shattered the window pane next to her.

A male jumped in front of her vehicle and another shot was fired and she was held at gunpoint and instructed to move into the passenger seat.

Another car followed them to the Mogogelo Cemetery, near the border of North West and Gauteng provinces where the thugs took her laptop, cellphone, handbag, bank card and personal belongings. The suspects then took the wheels off the vehicle and the battery and then propped her into the boot of her car and left.

For hours it was quiet and in the early hours of the morning she heard a pedestrian going by and screamed for help and the person assisted her.

A case of carjacking and attempted murder, carjacking and theft from a motor vehicle was opened at the Moeka Vuma police station. “The suspects are still at large and anyone with information can contact the Investigating Officer, Detective WO Khumalo on 082 416 1296,” says SAPS Brits spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.

BATTLE OF THE GIANTS 2023 All Styles Dance Sport Festival

BRITS POS – SUN CITY - This year’s 31st edition of the Battle of the Giants All Styles Dance Sport Festival, held at the world class venue of the Sun City Superbowl, was truly an all-styles dance competition, with dancers competing in Battles, Hip Hop, Modern, Show Dance, Slow Dance, Freestyle, Disco Dance, Disco Freestyle, Popping, Break Dance, Street Dance Show, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical and Jazz.

In total, 60 dance schools and over 640 dancers from all over the country competed in their respective disciplines and the South African Body of Dance, (SABOD) who organises this event, ensured that they have the best panel of Judges and Officials, who are locally and internationally accredited, to judge the various styles of dance, over the 4 days of the competition. This year the distinguished panel included: Debbie Rakusin, Tebogo Kgobokoe, Tina D’Artnall, Linda Dedekind, Hayley Hammond – Lamont, Sipho Didiza, Sandile Zulu, Lee—

Shane Booysen, Chantal Riviere De Klerk, and an international judge joined from Slovenia, Anrika Matko Juvancic. The competition is also very reliant on sponsors, and this year SABOD was supported by Sun City, Sun Vacation Club, Lara Travel, Tomato Watches, Garnier, Fifth Avenue Jewellery, Vogue, Steers, Coke, Powerade and BLOC Footwear. Bev Wood, the President of South African Body of Dance said, “There were some exciting new styles introduced this year, and this provided some exhilarating dancing and a display of versatility and artistic flair.

Congratulations to all the athletes and trainers. The Grand Final evening hosted on Saturday night, 22nd April, was truly a spectacular evening with a very powerful opening performance by the dance group

”Stimela”, choreographed by Debbie Rakusin in partnership with Eunice Marais, and the dancers were from HPDE, High Performance Dance School.

The rest of the evening showcased the various

“BATTLES” between the dancers, and they definitely gave it their all, using all their energy, skills and dance prowess, to battle it out till the end.

This year for the first time, “Tap Battles” were introduced, which gave a new modern perspective on a traditional style of dance. The Afro Crews, was also a brand-new section, and the teams really “impressed”

the crowds with their ethnic choreographed moves, which really “wowed” the audience. In the Solo Adult Achiever competition, the top solo dancers in the various styles, were all pitched against each-other, having to listen to a brand-new piece of music, and then dance to these different genres of music - once again, having to impress the Judges with their artistic interpretation of the music and expertise.

The overall winners were:

Bv.

NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS

PAMSA Bursary and Research Programme

BRITS POS – BRITS - The Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PAMSA) is offering BEng or BSc Chemical Engineering students the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree with the help of a two-year R320 000 bursary backed by industry support.

Samantha Choles, communications manager for PAMSA says “We must strengthen the bioeconomy through sustainable production if we are to safeguard our planet’s future. To do this, industries need forward-thinking people with the right skills. If you are a student currently completing your BEng or BSc in Chemical Engineering or have successfully graduated and want to be part of enabling this change, the PAMSA Bursary and Research Programme may be exactly what young people need to achieve this goal.”

It offers students an opportunity to work on innovative and exciting projects related to the paper and pulp industry, providing financial assistance to talented people who are looking to make an impact.

Successful applicants will receive funding to cover two years of full-time study at participating universities. During that time, students focus on research projects relating to the beneficiation of wood fibre, recycled fibre or process waste and resource efficiency. The R320 000 bursary will also help to cover accommodation, books, and a monthly stipend.

Investing in the future

By supporting talented individuals who are passionate about the industry, the pulp and paper sector can secure a steady stream of talented and skilled professionals to drive innovation and growth. The programme has already produced promising young engineers.

Mahlogonolo Mafela, a process engineer in training at Mpact says, “I am thrilled to be able to contribute to a cleaner environment through my work at one of PAMSA’s partner organisations and my current research project, empowering me to build a more sustainable future.”

Another success story out of the programme is Leané Naudé, who was recently acknowledged as one of three winners in the BlueSky Awards, an international innovation competition for the global forestry and forest products industry.

Students who successfully graduate in the PAMSA bursary programme will get the chance to be employed as engineers-in- training at participating PAMSA member companies allowing them to gain practical experience.

The application process is now open, and

interested students can apply through the PAMSA website. Students are encouraged who meet the criteria to apply and take the first step towards an exciting and fulfilling

career. For more information, please visit the PAMSA website https://thepaperstory.

Police offer a reward of up to R100 000 in murder case

BRITS POS – MOGWASE - Police offer a reward of up to R100 000 for any information which can lead to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators in the murder of a 53-year- old retired Warrant Officer Johannes Butiki Shaba (53).

The victim was allegedly attacked and fatally shot by four attackers at about 20:30 on Monday, 2 May 2022, in Unit 5, Mogwase, whilst accompanying his friend (57).

The friend was visiting a tenant, whilst Shaba remained in the vehicle; a Toyota Hilux Legend 50 bakkie. Upon returning to his vehicle, the victim’s friend was confronted by a suspect, who demanded

his vehicle key. The suspect then started to assault him and Shaba came to his aid, but was shot twice by the suspects, who fled the scene in the hijacked bakkie. During the incident, a 9mm Norinco pistol and cellular phone were also robbed. Shaba was rushed to a local health centre, where he passed on the same night.

The vehicle was later found abandoned at Thekwane, close to Rustenburg. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, urged the community to come forward with information that will ensure that these ruthless criminals are brought to book to face the full might of the law. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Lesego Mosimane of Mogwase Detectives on cell: 082 416 3083. Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated via the MySAPS App from your smart phone or call the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Stop on
