Open Call for Papers: African Journal of Gender and Religion July 2019

The African Journal of Gender and Religion (AJGR) is the first, online, double-blind peer- reviewed, open access journal for the transdisciplinary study of gender and religion in Africa.

AJGR is a bi-annual publication housed in The Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice at the University of the Western Cape. The journal seeks to explore the ways in which power operates in gendered relationships and the ways in which this power is determined and promoted by religious and cultural norms. We welcome submissions which draw on a variety of resources available within feminist, queer and masculinity studies as they intersect with religion and culture. The AJGR is an accredited publication of the South African Department of Higher Education and Training.

For the July 2019 edition, authors are invited to submit inter-disciplinary articles that explore phenomena and trends emerging from the intersections of religion, theology, gender and sexuality. We are an African journal and seek to encourage authors to reflect on Africa as context, concept, and theory. We are equally welcoming of international contributions engaging with a variety of social and geographic contexts.

The AJGR is an open access journal and provides immediate access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Previous volumes of the journal can be accessed freely online at http://epubs.ac.za/index.php/AJGR.

Submission Guidelines:

Deadline for abstracts (250-300 words): 15 March 2019

Deadline for full article submissions (7000 words max): 1 May 2019 Publication: July 2019

Prospective contributors should send a typed copy of their abstract and article via email to submissions@ajgr.org.

The In-House Standard and Style Sheet guidelines can be accessed at www.ajgr.org or http://epubs.ac.za/index.php/AJGR.
