Perseroan menyadari bahwa pendidikan adalah kunci dari masa depan sebuah bangsa. Karena itu, Perseroan menaruh perhatian yang besar di bidang pendidikan. Selain membangun dan mengelola sendiri sejumlah sekolah, Perseroan juga melakukan pembinaan sekolah- sekolah negeri yang telah ada di sekitar areal perkebunan. Dengan pengembangan bidang pendidikan yang baik, Perseroan telah ikut berperan serta aktif dalam upaya mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa.

Through a series of training on good agronomic practices, in 2015, these partnerships yielded 3.84 million tons of raw material supplied to the palm oil mills with a transactional value reaching Rp 5.13 trillion paid out to the farmers.
Apart from purchasing FFB, the Company also collaborated with the community to become a partner for the supply of raw material required by the mills, to undertake civil engineering work, provide transportation services and supplying the employees’ daily needs, such as rice and vegetables.
Education
The Company realizes that education is the key to a nation’s future. Therefore, much attention was paid to education. Not only by building and managing schools, the Company also assisted existing state schools located in the surrounding of the plantations. By properly developing education, the Company has actively contributed in educating the nation.

Di bawah Yayasan Astra Agro Lestari (YAAL), sampai dengan akhir tahun 2015, Perseroan telah membangun dan mengelola 57 sekolah swasta YAAL yang terdiri dari 36 Taman Kanak-Kanak, 13 Sekolah Dasar dan 8 Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Selain itu, Perseroan juga mengelola 10 Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN-milik Pemerintah) yang berada di dalam area operasional Perseroan. Untuk menjamin kualitas pendidikan, Perseroan memiliki 526 tenaga guru yang juga diangkat sebagai karyawan tetap Perseroan dan beberapa di antaranya diperbantukan untuk mengajar di sekolah milik Pemerintah. Jumlah siswa tercatat sebanyak 12.480 murid yang terdiri dari anak-anak karyawan di kebun maupun anak-anak masyarakat di sekitar kebun. Keragaman siswa ini membuktikan bahwa sekolah yang dikelola oleh Yayasan Astra Agro Lestari adalah sekolah inklusif yang menerima siswa dari berbagai latar belakang. Selain sekolah yang dibangun dan dikelola langsung, Perseroan juga telah membina 179 sekolah negeri/swasta dari jenjang pendidikan TK sampai SMU/SMK yang telah ada dan berdiri di areal sekitar perkebunan dengan jumlah siswa 19.921 siswa. Pembinaan yang dilakukan berupa bantuan honor mengajar dan transportasi bagi 454 guru sekolah negeri, bantuan pemenuhan/perbaikan sarana- prasarana sekolah, pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam rangka peningkatan kompetensi tenaga pengajar, serta standarisasi kurikulum sesuai dengan kurikulum nasional yang telah ditetapkan oleh Pemerintah.
Meskipun berada di daerah yang terpencil dan jauh dari pusat kota, namun sekolah-sekolah yang dikelola Perseroan mampu bersaing dengan sekolah-sekolah lainnya. Sejumlah prestasi sampai tingkat nasional telah diraih. Salah satunya, SMP Pasangkayu yang berada di dalam perkebunan PT Pasangkayu di Kabupaten Mamuju Utara, Sulawesi Barat, berhasil meraih penghargaan Adiwiyata tahun 2015 dari Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan. Penghargaan Adiwiyata diberikan sebagai apresiasi kepada SMP Pasangkayu sebagai sekolah yang berwawasan lingkungan (green school). Selain itu,
para siswa di sekolah-sekolah yang dikelola Perseroan juga berprestasi di berbagai kompetisi akademik maupun non akademik dalam bidang ilmu pengetahuan, seni budaya dan olahraga.

By the end of 2015, the Company has, under the auspices of Yayasan Astra Agro Lestari (YAAL), built and managed 57 YAAL private schools composed of 36 Kindergartens, 13 Elementary Schools and 8 Junior High Schools. In addition, the Company also managed 10 State Schools (Government- owned Schools) located within the operational area of the Company. To guarantee the educational quality, the Company has employed 526 teachers, part of whom have been engaged as permanent employees and some of them assigned to teach at the Government-owned schools. The schools have a total of 12,480 registered students who are both employees’ children and children of the communities living in the surrounding of the plantation. The diversity of students who are going to schools managed by Yayasan Astra Agro Lestari is evidence that these are inclusive schools accepting students from various backgrounds. Apart from schools built and managed directly, the Company also supports 179 existing state/private schools starting from Kindergartens to Senior High Schools/ Vocational Schools with a total of 19,921 students, located in the area surrounding the plantation. The support provided is in the form of salary and transportation for 454 teachers of the state schools, assistance in providing/ improving school facilities and infrastructure, training and coaching to enhance teachers competence, as well as in standardizing the curriculum to meet the requirements of the national curriculum established by the Government. Although they are located in remote areas far from city centers, the schools managed by the Company were able to compete with other schools. Several achievements have been made, even up to the national level. These are, among others, Pasangkayu Junior High School situated within the plantation of PT Pasangkayu in Mamuju Utara Regency, West Sulawesi, received the Adiwiyata award of 2015 from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. the Adiwiyata award was given to Pasangkayu Junior High School in appreciation for being a green school. In addition, students of schools managed by the Company also made achievements in various academic and non- academic competitions in science, art and sports.
