Descriptive Text 1. The Definition and Purpose of Descriptive Text
Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
2. Social Function
To show rather than tell the reader about the factual condition of the object.
3. The Generic Structure of Descriptive Text Descriptive text has structure as below:
Identification; identifying the phenomenon to be described.
Description; describing the phenomenon in parts, qualities, or/and characteristics.
4. The Language Feature of Descriptive Text
Using attributive and identifying process.
Using adjective and classifiers in nominal group.
Using simple present tense
Borobudur Temple
Borobudur is Hindu - Budhist temple. It was build in the nineth century under Sailendra dynasty of ancient Mataram kingdom. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.
Borobudur is well-known all over the world. Its construction is influenced by the Gupta architecture of India. The temple is constructed on a hill 46 m high and consist of eight step like stone terrace. The first five terrace are square and
surrounded by walls adorned with Budist sculpture in bas-relief. The upper three are circular. Each of them is with a circle of bell shape-stupa. The entire adifice is crowned by a large stupa at the centre at the centre of the top circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passage and starways. The design of
borobudur which symbolizes the structure of universe influences temples at Angkor, Cambodia.
Borobudur temple which is rededicated as an Indonesian monument in 1983 is a valuable treasure for Indonesian people.
My Pets
We have three family pets: a dog, a cat, and a tortoise. The dog’s name is Benjamin. He is big golden Labrador. He is beautiful. He has big brown eyes and a long tail. He is very friendly dog, but he is sometimes a little stupid. Dogs are expensive to keep but they are fun to play with.
Our cat is named Martha. She is quite young, but she is not a kitten. She is very pretty. She has black and white fur and green eyes. She’s smart, too and very clean.
The tortoise’s name is Rocky. He has short, fat legs, a long neck, and a very hard shell. He is also very old and slow. He’s ugly and dirty, but I like him.

My Best Friend Lina
She is one of my best friends. She is very honest, friendly and funny person.
And she is my classmate in Primary School. Her full name is Lina Marlina. Her nickname is Lina. Now, she is 16 years old. She was born in Enrekang on Mei 21st 1998. Now she is live at Delima Street No 6 in Cendana. Her father worked as a police officer and her mother worked as a teacher in a primary school. Lina has a brother and sister. Her sister is Mifta Aulifa and her brother is Ilman Amanu.
Lina school at SMA Negeri 1 Cendana. She is very good at academic or non academic. In academic she is very good math and english. She is an olympiad champion for math and sains. She is active in all of school activities. She is also confident at every opportunity.
Lina has an oval face. She has curly hair. She has a pointed nose. The colour of her skin is white. Her favourite food is fried rice. And her hobby is swimming and drawing.
She likes cat very much. She always takes care of her cat kindly. She also likes to collect dolls, especially Hello kitty doll.

My mother is a wonderful mom. She looks beautiful because she has brightest skin in my family. You must be wonder about my skin. Mine is dark. It is inherited from my father and I would not tell about him. Back to begin. My mother has a pointed nose and little eyes. Her eyebrows are almost invisible because they are so rare. She has quite fat body and her height is 3 cm under me.
She is short woman, but I don’t care about it. I love her.
I will not tell you about her hair, because it is a secret. My mother always wears veil to cover her head and her chest cavity everywhere and every time. All veils that she wears always have big size and they become her identity. Now she inherited her habit to me. I always wear veil too. But mine is not so big, because I’m just the beginning.
My mother is a working woman. She is a civil servant in Jombang local government. She works at Bappeda, Jombang. Bappeda means a part of regional development planning. Everyday she always faces her laptop to do her jobs.
Sometimes she has to go back to her office in the evening after receiving a sudden job. Then she rides her car by herself.
My mother is a busy woman. But she has full love to give to her children. I’m proud of being her daughter.

Nina Surahmi. He was born on November 4th, 1991 in Enrekang. He has two sisters. He finished his study at SDN 41 Enrekang in 2003, at SMPN 1 Enrekang in 2006, at SMAN 1 Enrekang in 2009 and then, he registered as one of the students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in English Education Department.
At the end of his study , he could finish his thesis with tittle Improving the Students’ Writing Proficiency in Descriptive Paragraph through Personal Photograph at the Second Year Students of SMA Negeri 1 Cendana Kabupaten Enrekang.
