CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDING AND DISCUSSION

B. The Description of Data

In this section, the researcher discusses the description results of the research he conducted on the listening comprehension of 8th-grade students at MTs Nurul Mukmin Jatitoroto. Two classes were subjects of the study. The first class was VIII A as the control group, and the other class was VIII B as the experimental group. They were chosen by the researcher because the English teacher ordered. The experimental group was given HIHO KIDS YouTube Video with English Subtitle as the learning media, while the control group was taught with no Subtitle video (taught in conventional ways)

Before and after giving the treatment to both groups, the researcher conducted tests to get the score of students’ listening ability. Both control and experimental groups were given two types of test. They were the pre cycle-test, the listening test before giving the treatment that found out the homogeneity of two classes, and the post-test, the listening test after conducting the treatment that measured the t-test.

The pre cycle-test was held on 6th of September 2022 at 07.00-08.00 a.m. in both classes. In the pre cycle-test, the researcher gave the listening recall and multiple-choice of listening comprehension about descriptive text to the students. Every students has 60 minutes only to the answer test consisting 20 items, specifically 10 items of listening recall and 10 items of multiple-choice. After measured the homogeneity of two classes and found no the diffrences. The researcher gave the treatment to the experimental class twice, the first treatment was held on 14th of September 2022, the researcher gave the

students a brief explanation of the HiHo Kids YouTube Video with English Subtitle and the lesson they would receive. The explanation of the descriptive text using the HiHo Kids YouTube Video with English Subtitle was divided into 2 sessions, the first was was an explanation of the descriptive text, the third researcher provided example sentences using descriptive text in the English subtitle of HiHO Kids YouTube Video, the researcher explained the descriptive text such as meaning, function, and formula of descriptive text.

The second treatment was held on 15th September 2022, the researcher provided the HiHo Kids YouTube Video with English Subtitle, and he leaded the processing in watching the video. The researcher paused the video to show the descriptive text in the subtitle, and ordered to the students analyzed the subtitle which has form of descriptive text.

After conducting the treatments, the researcher held a post-test to the experimental and control class. The post-test was held on 17th September 2022, it was done by giving listening recall and multiple-choice descriptive text to both groups like the pre-test but it has different content. This kind of test used use objective scoring rubric because the types of the test are listening recall and multiple choice, it consisted 20 items. The researcher used this kind of method:

The researcher used point 5 for the correct answer as the total of the test was 20, because 100/20 = 5

Example:

If students can answer 15 items so the scoring would be = 15x5 = 75 1. Students’ Listening Comprehension Score of The Pre cycle-test

a. Experimental Class

In this section, the researcher presented the data of the pre cycle-test in the experimental class before given the treatment using HiHo Kids YouTube Video with Eglish subtitle as learning media. The researcher has already chosen VIII-A as the experimental class which consists of 20 students.

Based on the result, the data revealed that mean score of pre cycle-test in the experimental class was 63.5. There were no students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75). It can be seen that the minimum score gained by students was 50, while the maximum score gained by students was 70.

b. Control Class

Another section, the researcher presented the data of the pre-test in the control class. The researcher has already chosen VIII-A as the control class. The class consisted of 20 students

Based on the result of pre cycle-test, the data revealed that mean score of pre-test in the control class was 62.25. There were no students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75). It can be

seen that the minimum score gained by students was 50, while the maximum score gained by students was 70.

2. Students’ Listening Comprehension Score of The Post-Test a. Experimental Class

This section presents the data of post-test in the experimental class that was taught using Hiho Kids YouTube Video with English Class as learning media. The data was obtained from the listening comprehension text.

Based on the result of the post-test, the data revealed that the mean score of the post-test was 83.75. There were only 1 student who get a score below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75), and the other students were passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75). The highest achievement score gained by the student was 90, and the lowest achievement score gained by the student was 70. It can be seen that the data shown has increased scores from the pre-test results before and after taught by Hiho Kids YouTube Video with English subtitle as learning media.

b. Control Class

Based on the result of the post-test, the data revealed that mean score of the post test was 74.25. There were only 8 students who get a score below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75) and the others students were passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion (75). The

highest achievement score gained by student was 85, and the lowest achievement score gained by student was 65.
