6.2. Saran

Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan air minum isi ulang di Kecamatan Medan Selayang mengandungi kadar fluoride yang rendah berbanding kadar yang direkomendasikan oleh WHO, Oleh sebab itu dokter gigi dan juga pemberi pelayanan kesehatan perlu peka terhadap masyarakat, mereka mungkin menderita defisiensi fluoride dan karies gigi jika menggunakan air ini sebagai sumber utama air minum seharian. Suplemen fluoride mungkin perlu dipertimbangkan.

Masyarakat juga perlu diberi edukasi mengenai pentingnya penjagaan kesehatan gigi, aplikasi fluoride dan kontrol diet serta menyarankan agar melakukan pemeriksaan rutin ke dokter gigi atau klinik kedokteran gigi sebelum terjadinya karies.Peran dokter terutama dokter gigi sebagai penyuluh saat menangani pasien perlu ditingkatkan.

Peneliti selanjutnya bisa melakukan penelitian dengan melihat hubungan antara prevalensi karies gigi dengan kadar fluoride didalam air minum . Penelitian lain yaitu analisa kadar fluoride didalam pasta gigi dan teh juga bisa dilakukan. Dinas kesehatan bisa menganalisa kadar fluoride depot air minum dari semua depot di Medan dan dilakukan pembandingan.
