1. Perlu dilakukan penelitian tentang faktor-faktor lainnya yang mempengaruhi pertumbuhan fitoplankton, seperti laju grazing.

2. Perlu dilakukan penelitian tentang keterkaitan fitoplankton dengan zooplankton maupun dengan ikan planktivorous.
