About three weeks after this exploit, there arrived a solemn embassy from Blefuscu, with humble offers of a peace. ; which was soon concluded upon conditions very advantageous to our Emperor. They began with many compliments upon my valour and generosity, invited me to that kingdom in the Emperor their master's name, and desired me to show them some proofs of my prodigious strength, of which they had heard so many wonders.

Accordingly, the next time 1 had the honour to see our Emperor, 1 desired his general license to wait on the Blefuscudians monarch, as I could plainly in a very cold manner. (page:41)

His Majesty presented me with fifty purses of two hundred sprugs a-piece together with his picture at full length, which I put immediately into one of my gloves, to keep it from being hurt. (page: 66)

1 set sail on the twenty-fourth day of September 1701, at six in the morning. And when I had gone about four leagues to the northward, the wind being in the south-sea, at six in the evening 1 descried a small island about a hay 'a league to the north-west. I advanced forward, and cast anchor on the all-side of the island, which seerned to be uninhabited. (page:67)

It is not easy to express the joy 1 was in upon the unexpected hope of once more seeing my beloved country. We were now in the latitude of 30 degrees of south; there were about fifty men in the ship; and here I met an old comrade of mine, Peter William who gave me a good character to the

Captain. This gentlemen treated me with kindness. (page:68)

We arrived in the Downs on the thirteenth of April 1702. the rest of my cattle I got safe on shore, and set them a graiing in a bowling green at

Greenwich, where the fineness of the grass made them very heartily. The short time 1 continued in England, l made considerable profit by showing ma cattle to many persons of quality, and others; and before 1 began my second voyage, I sold them for six hundred pounds. (page: 68)

I stayed about two months with my wife and family; for my insatiable desire of seeing foreign countries would suffer me to continue no longer. I left j jiteen hundred pounds with my wife and fixed her a good house at Redriff.
