Matthew Arnold
A study of Matthew Arnold's contribution to educational theory. In particular, the course will be concerned with Arnold's notion of a liberal education, his emphasis on the intrinsic value of education and his rejection of the purely instrumental arguments advanced by many of his contemporaries.
