Course Objectives

Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training (Curriculum)

This course aims to develop practising educational professionals who wish to take a leadership role in curriculum design and evaluation in vocational education and training settings.

On completion of this course students should be able to:

A demonstarte a superior knowledge and

understanding of the context, theory and practice of curriculum design and evaluation;

A express informed opinions about curriculum in vocational education and training settings;

A make effective use of the findings of research and scholarship in addressing professional problems in the area of vocational curriculum;

A demonstrate an appreciation of appropriate professional responsibilities and ethical principles associated with vocational curriculum design and evaluation.

Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training (Information Technology)

This course aims to develop practising educational professionals who wish to take a leadership role in managing and integrating appropriate information and communications technology in the workplace, by furthering their professional knowledge and expertise in the theory and practice of using information and communications technology and training settings.

On completion of this course students should be able to:

demonstrate a superior knowledge and understanding of recent developments in

information and communications technology and the applications and implications for education and training;

express informed opinions about information and communications technology in educational and training settings

A make effective use of the findings of research and scholarship in addressing professional problems In the area of information and communications technology in educator and timing;

A make effective use of the findings of educational research and scholarship in addressing problems associated with organisational change:

A demonstrate the depth of knowledge and understanding appropriate for leadership in matters of organisational change; and

A demonstrate an appreciation of appropriate professional responsibilities and ethical principles associated with organisational change.

This course aims to develop practising educational professionals who wish to take a leadership role in technology education.

On completion of this course students should be able to:

A demonstrate a superior knowledge and understanding of the context theory and practice of technology and technology analysis; education

express informed opinions about technology and technology education;

• make effective use of the findings of educational research and scholarship in addressing professional problems in the area of technology education;

demonstrate the depth of knowledge and

understanding appropriate for leadership in the area of technology education; and

A demonstrate an appreciation of appropriate professional responsibilities and ethical principles associated with technology education.

The following information relates to all three courses.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A person may be a candidate for one of the Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training courses who:

A has completed at a standard satisfactory to the Faculty of Education the Bachelor of Education and Training, or a degree and approved teaching qualification or an approved equivalent; and

A has obtained the consent of Faculty to the candidature.

Additional Entry Requirement for Information Technology applicants only:

can demonstrate expertise in technical aspects of information and communications technology.

Applicants without the prerequisite knowledge will be referred to the Graduate Certificate of Education and.

Training (Information Technology).

The Selection Committee may, at its discretion, take into account:

a) Reports from persons with relevant professional qualifications, where those reports may assist the selection committee in evaluating the relative likelihood of success of any applicant.

b) The level of sponsorship or support by an applicant's employer, insofar as this may assist the applicant in successfully completing the course.

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS STUDY

Credit for study already completed at tertiary level may be granted in certain circumstances. The amount of credit granted shall not exceed 50 per cent of the requirements of the course.

Credit will not be granted for comparable studies in a course for which the student has already taken out an award, or which was used to gain entry to the Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training course.

PERIOD OF CANDIDATURE

Each Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training course is a one year full—time or two year part—time course.

Students will be required to pursue a course on a full—time basis for at least one and not more than two academic years, or for at least two and not more than four academic years on a part—time basis.

UNSATISFACTORY PROGRESS

Following the confirmation of results at the end of the academic year the enrolments of certain students come under review as follows:

1. students who gain credit of less than one half of their total enrolment in that year;

2. students who fail a subject for the second time;

3. students who do not complete their course within two years as a full—time student or within four years as a part—

time student.

Please refer to the General Information section at the front of this Course and Subject Guide, under Unsatisfactory Progress, for an outline of the Faculty process in dealing with students who fall into these categories.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Successful study in the graduate programs will require students to develop computer literacy. In practical terms, this means that students will need to acquire skills in word processing, file and disk management, network and on-line library access. The Faculty's Computer Facilities offer a number of training courses specifically tailored to these and other needs. QUALIFYING FOR THE AWARD To satisfy the requirements of a Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training course students must complete both the compulsory and elective subjects in their chosen course.

Students must attend lectures and classes and practicum

placement as provided by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the Faculty and published with the details of subjects, and completed to the satisfaction of the examiners the prescribed assessments.
