However, the lineage stretches back into Queensland history this century and includes: Kelvin Grove College of Teacher Education, Kelvin Grove Teachers' College, (Queensland) Teachers' College, (Queensland) Teachers' Training College, Mount Gravatt Teachers' College and Kedron Park Teachers ' College. With an enrollment of around 10,000 students in 1987, the Brisbane College of Advanced Education is already a relatively large institution.

POLICY STATEMENTS

At the end of the first week of lectures in the unit, a written statement setting out the assessment requirements for each unit must be provided to all students taking the unit. Exceptions to this policy will be limited to situations where it is determined that releasing information is in the clear best interests of the student. It is not the role of the Board to act as an intermediary in establishing such contacts.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Classroom services, equipment loan and production services are offered by the Resource Center through its Audio Visual Services. Where necessary, training in the use of the Resource Center's equipment can be arranged with the staff. The Resource Center uses the Dewey Decimal classification system to organize its collection materials.

SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS

Teaching grants are offered by the State Department of Education to students on pre-school teacher training courses. Full-time and part-time students who are fully enrolled in an approved tertiary course of study at BCAE and are suffering from financial hardship are the only people eligible to receive special financial assistance in accordance with the special assistance guidelines adopted by the College. Furthermore, aid provided by the College as special grants should not exceed 10% of the total aid to be provided in any year.

THE UNION

All public telephones (Gold STD and red telephones) on campus are supplied by the Union. Staff in the Union Office are able to direct students to someone who can help with AUSTUDY requirements. Services are not a static thing, so students should check the notice boards, NOTA, DeCae and notices in the Union offices for news.

CONSTITUTION OF THE UNION

PART 1 - PRELIMINARY

The Union's goals are:-. a) to investigate, recommend and negotiate improvements where possible in matters relating to the welfare of the students of the College. Subject to this Constitution and regulations under this Constitution, the Union shall have the management and control of its affairs, concerns, property and finances, and may act in all matters relating to the Union in such manner as shall appear best calculated to promote the Union interests and purposes. In particular, the Union has powers to:-. a) to borrow money on overdraft or by way of loan from a bank or any other person on, to and subject to such security, interest and other terms and conditions as the Union may think fit.

All powers referred to in PART III, Section 1 of this Constitution are subject to the following obligations to the College Council:-. a) presentation of budgets to the college council at times that the college council wishes. Such budgets shall indicate in detail the disbursements of all funds available to the Union.

Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 1 (a) and (b) above, the Council of the Union may, at its discretion, exempt from membership any student who submits special reasons in writing for exemption from membership of the Union. If exemption from membership is granted, the amount of the union fee due is paid into the College Trust Fund for the use of student services and facilities within the College. The Union fee paid by a member of the Union whose membership ceases before the last date set by the College for withdrawing without penalty shall be refunded in full.

The Annual General Meeting of the Union will be convened in the month of September or October. Only members of the Union present at the general meeting have the right to vote at that meeting. The elected members of the Executive will be:-. i) Union President, (ii) Union Secretary, (iii) Union Finance Officer, (iv) Union Activities Officer, (v) Union Media Officer, (vi) Union Education Officer, ( vii) Union Sports Officer and (viii) Union Women Officer.

In addition to the Representatives referred to in PART VIII - Article 3 (a) of this Constitution, the Campus Vice-President for each Campus will be a member of the Union Council. A representative shall be deemed to vacate his office if absent, without leave, from either three consecutive meetings of Union Council or three consecutive campus student meetings;. The provisions of PART VII - Article 12 of this Constitution apply to Union Council representatives.

Financial Standing Committee - convened by the Financial Officer who will be Chairman and consisting of the Campus Presidents and the Union President;. Media Standing Committee - convened by the Media Officer who will be Chairman and consists of the Media Organizers of each Campus;. Sports Standing Committee - convened by the Sports Officer who will be Chairman and consists of the Sports Organizers of each Campus.

The Standing Committees of the Union are: -. a) Standing Committee of the President - convened by the President of the Union, who shall be Chairman, and consisting of the Campus Presidents; Standing Activities Committee - convened by the Activities Officer, who will chair, and consisting of the Activities Organizers from each Campus and the President of the Union; Standing Education Committee - convened by the Education Officer who will chair and consisting of the Education Organizers of each Campus;

ACCOMMODATION

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The college holds a large collection of works of art formed from the combined collections of the constituent campuses. The acquisitions made from the departmental grant were significantly augmented by presentations from the Queensland Teachers Union under the B.A. Daughtrey Bequest and other private bequests and by grants from the Visual Arts and Crafts Boards of the Australia Council.

DRAMA

The College Gallery on the Kelvin Grove campus has developed into a public gallery that holds nine or ten exhibitions each year. The college also offers an artist-in-residence program for leading practitioners in a variety of fields. In recent years, prominent printmakers such as Cheo Hiang Chai and Nicholas Nedelkopoulos have held residencies in the art department at Kelvin Grove through fellowships provided by the Visual Arts Board.

DANCE

The classes are available to members of the community and are popular with students from many courses. Regular concert performances by visiting artists, staff and students are held in the Music Building, Kelvin Grove Campus. Persons interested in one of the above groups should direct their inquiries to the Secretary of the Expressive Arts Department, Carseldine campus, which has an extensive concert programme.

CENTRES FOR PROMOTION OF RESEARCH AND LEARNING

Facilities at the Centre: Apart from having its own equipment and facilities, the Center has access to all facilities of the campus. The Center for Studies in Teaching is located in Rooms A302-A308 at the Kelvin Grove campus. Research Center - Headquarters: The Center Headquarters, located on Level 2 of the Main Teaching Building at Mount Gravatt Campus, serves to coordinate reading centers on all campuses as described below.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION

Upon successful completion of the program, participants are eligible to enroll in the 'Extended' Bachelor of Education course. Students who have less than three years of education must complete additional studies prior to the eight units required for the Bachelor of Education award. The Bachelor of Education course will be offered simultaneously at the Carseldine, Kelvin Grove and Mount Gravatt campuses and will replace the three former campus-based courses.
