Additional AARA resources now available
Purpose
To advise teachers, students, parents/carers and health professionals that the QCAA has:
• updated its access arrangements and reasonable adjustments (AARA) webpages
• created additional resources to inform and support AARA applications.
Background
The QCAA recognises that some students may have disability impairment and/or medical conditions or experience other circumstances that may affect their ability to read, respond to and participate in assessment. AARA are designed to assist these students.
Access arrangements are action/s taken by the school so that a student with an eligible impairment that may not be covered by the definition of disability can access assessment.
Reasonable adjustments are action/s taken by the school so that a student with an eligible impairment as a result of a disability and/or medical condition and experiencing other circumstances creating a barrier to the completion of assessment can be assessed.
Information
The updated AARA webpages and new resources provide information for schools, students, parents/carers and health professionals about:
• key AARA dates
• AARA eligibility
• possible arrangements and adjustments
• preparing an AARA application
• checklists and templates (e.g. a medical report template) that may help with applications
• information for health professionals
• FAQs.
The QCAA will add additional resources in coming months.
