G20 teaching and learning resources available now on QCAA website

Purpose

To advise schools that the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has developed and released a suite of P–12 teaching and learning resources inspired by Australia’s presidency of the G20 and hosting of the G20 Leaders Summit in November 2014.

Background

The G20 includes 19 countries and the European Union whose leaders meet at least once a year in different host cities. The G20 Leaders Summit will be held on 15 and 16 November 2014 in Brisbane. This will be the most significant meeting of world leaders Australia has hosted and will put the world's focus on Brisbane and Queensland.

Additionally, the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting will be held on 20 and 21 September 2014 in Cairns.

G20 provides an opportunity for Queensland students to further explore the world they live in and Australia’s place in the world.

Information

The G20 teaching and learning resources are available on the QCAA website and can be used by teachers in all year levels from Prep to Year 12 during Terms 3 and 4.

Teaching and learning activities for P–10 relate to learning areas and subjects such as Geography, Economics, Business, Civics and Citizenship, and Studies of Society and

Environment (SOSE). There are additional P–10 literacy and numeracy activities that use G20 as a learning context.

Resources for Years 11 and 12 relate to the senior syllabuses for Economics and Geography.

Digital resources

The teaching and learning resources are supported and supplemented by digital resources including:

• an interactive G20 map that enables students to explore social, economic and environmental data about G20 member and guest countries

• virtual field trips that use the Queensland Globe application and Google Earth to give students an insider’s view of the G20 precinct
