Just a reminder about the BBQ on 18th May

Commencing at 12 noon followed by bowls afternoon.

May 2013 newsletter 3

Some of our Lady Bowlers have taken a holiday break from bowls, enjoying their time away. Kaye and Ron DÁrcy had a week away playing golf. Mysie Corrigan is having a couple of weeks away with her Family. Marie and Rod Heath are living it up at Bribie Island enjoying a week of fishing, bowls and

“happy hours” at the local caravan park. Dot and Jim Kennedy are jetting off to Singapore to discover how much the City has changed. Mavis Partridge and Alan are venturing off to China, they will visit Beijing, then off by train out to Xiaan to see Terracotta Warriors and other interesting sites, including river cruises and shopping of course. Kaye and Ron Downie will be interested in hearing about the Trip as they are booked to go to China in September.

And a little bird has spread the word that they are celebrating a very special Anniversary. Members were pleased to see the illustrious Ladies’ Secretary Denise, return to the green recently, mind you Denise is very quick to give credit to Carol for her part in the position as they Co Secretary together.

Welcome back Denise. Thank You Mavis for this information.

Our thanks to Ken Burgess Kevin Appleton, Danny Forte and Mike Dawe for their time and effort in ex- tending the office. Well done

This Month’s Profile features team Player and all round good Guy, Barry Briggs. It has been noticed that Barry is always on hand to lend a hand.

Barry actually started bowling 47 years ago at Ariah Park NSW, He was a Committee Member for a number of years. And if you ever need a hair cut Barry’s the Man to see, He was a Shearer for 30 years, then worked at Ardlethan Tin mines for the next decade. Barry and Lovely Wife of 45 years Judith, came to Qld in 1995, where Barry worked as a Courier, together they have 2 Sons and 2 Grandchildren. On arriving in Qld, Barry decided the fishing was too good, so He went fishing for fifteen years before returning to bowls in 2008, and the fish were pleased to see him leave, and the Club was more than pleased to see Him arrive. Barry is Club Welfare Officer.

Our Coolum Bus trip was really enjoyable, good food, good Company together with some interesting bowls on an 18 second green. No names but I did hear a Caboolture Lady, bowl- ing on a rink near me saying “Fri*** Hell, after 12 ends we are not even on the board yet” Thanks to Jim Kennedy who did a great job co-ordinating the trip. Well done to new Member Des, he was all over the Jack. Thanks to Julie our Driver, her knowl- edge of alternative routes got us home an hour earlier. A survey was taken and we are now known as the Rollin Bowlin group and Julie has made a sign for the bus ROLLIN BOWLIN ON TOUR.. Thanks to Ken Burgess for this information. Sounds like fun don’t miss out on the next trip.

There is no doubt that if we have been privileged enough to raise our Children, and indeed if we are of an age to know the joy of sharing in the lives of our Grand- children, we treasure those times, as Dot and Jim Kennedy must have when their Cadet Grandson, Mark, was chosen to lay a wreath at Wamuran Memorial Service on Anzac day.

In each Generation we have Heroes of all ages and Genders. Thank You all.

Club Welfare Officer Barry has been checking on the condition and progress of Member Cliffy Klien, Cliffy is doing well and will be joining us on the green soon.

To Members who are indisposed through illness we wish you a speedy recovery, and your Bowling mates are thinking of you.
