COVER PICTURE Ladybirds in general are useful insects—but n o t so the species illustrated o n this m o n t h ' s cover. Epl- lachna 28-punctata, aptly named t h e leaf e a t i n g ladybird, is a pest of cucurbits, but also a t - tacks such vegetables as tomatoes, potatoes a n d beans. This species was originally confined to t h e north of the State b u t is now also found in more southern areas.
