An assistant commissioner may be appointed generally or by appointment. of a particular part of the State. A decision of the Commissioner does not take effect unless and until it is confirmed by the Minister. The said card or any card substituted therefor (hereinafter called the card) shall be kept at the office of the Commissioner.
The Commissioner may recommend to the Governor in Coundl that- (a) Any road which in the opinion of the Commissioner a. the main communication route by road, to be declared a national highway;. 9) (a) The Commissioner may, with the approval of the Governor in Council, take, purchase or lease any land adjoining a highway for the purpose of this section. Such approval shall not apply to the acquisition of land referred to in sub-section (2) of this section.
For the purposes of this section, road means a designated road or other road under the control of the Commissioner. Provided that such additional maintenance work shall be carried out with the permission of the Commissioner and on sections or at locations. To provide for the imposition by the Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor in Council, of a toll on any road subject to this Act (including a designated road).
