Welcome to our Documentary Showcase 2005 screenings.

Each of the Documentary's screened tonight have been made by a group of students held together with a vision and a passion for their craft.

They have a story to tell and I hope you will enjoy their efforts.

Your support and interest is important to us; please take the opportunity to stay after the screening and talk to the film makers.

Art Therapy is a reflective documentary about a time in my brother's life when his artwork truly affected his life. His drawings during this time reflect his frustration but also his passion for the survival for both his physical and mental health.

"Neighbours- they're your closest friends, until they poison the family cat."

With dark humour this film examines three independent stories of horror in suburbia. The bewildered victims tell of how alcohol, unrequited love and racial differences fuelled fights and pet poisonings in their seemingly friendly neighbourhoods. Why are these people driven by revenge and the need to hurt cats? Jump 'over the fence' and discover the sinister underbelly of the Australian way of living.

The Man Who Wouldn't Give Up is a short biographical documentary about the leader of the Queensland Greens Party and 'the greatest political failure' in the history of Australian politics, Drew Hutton. The film explores the grey area between what is political failure and what is success? Is failure loosing ten elections over twenty years in all three levels of government?

Or is there something else to be said for being determined and believing in your own campaign regardless of the knock backs? Drew Hutton is The Man Who Wouldn't Give Up.

Dish Pigs looks into the life of the kitchen at the North Burleigh Surf Club.

It is the busiest weekend of the year and the Chefs and the Kitchen-Hands (Dish Pigs) are gearing up for a busy Saturday night. The world of the kitchen is a strange one as we take a look at activities that happen behind closed doors.

After a 25 year career as a professional dancer Paul Boyd retired at age 43 in 2003 and since ·has been teaching and choreographing around the world. This film lyrically portrays the teacher and choreographer that his students and I have come to know.

Glue and Sawdust is a personal, experimental documentary which explores the relationship between a 19 year old girl and her father. It traces the pattern of growth through three stages of understanding; that of a young child's perception of her father as a glorious faultless figure; the revelation a little later in life, that her father can fail her; and finally the stage of acceptance of her father as a failure, a good man, a person, as well as a parent.

A story told within the thrills of a fencing duel. This film attempts to tell the story of fencing from the perspective of the people who do the sport.

It explores the mindsets and the emotions that go through the fencer's head as they engage in a duel; the thought-patterns of the fencers as their mind and body work together to try and achieve victory over each other.

Red Hot and 0-Cup is a serious and unbridled look into the changes that occur to a man during his transformation into a performing drag queen.

The film focuses closely upon Jay and captures the physical and emotional alterations that occur before he walks on stage as Miss Demeanour.

PATRONS PLEASE NOTE

To ensure that all patrons enjoy the performance Management asks you to note:

• Camera, tape recorders and paging devices should not be used inside the auditorium.

• Switch off alarms and mobile phones prior to the performance.

•A single cough measures approximately 65 decibels of sound. The use of a handkerchief helps to greatly soften the sound.

•Management reserves the right to refuse admission, also to make any alterations in the program which may be rendered necessary by illness or other unavoidable causes.

EVACUATION

PATRONS are advised that Gardens Theatre and the loft have an EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURE, a FIRE ALARM system and EXIT escape signs. In the case of an alert, patrons should remain calm, look for the closest EXIT sign in GREEN, listen to and comply with the directions given by staff, and move in an orderly manner to the open spaces outside the Theatres.
