Development of G20 learning resources

Purpose

To advise schools that the QSA is developing new teaching and learning resources inspired by Australia’s presidency of the Group of 20 (G20) and hosting of the G20 Leaders Summit in November. These resources could be used by teachers in all year levels from Prep to Year 12 during Terms 3 and 4.

Background

The G20 includes 19 countries and the European Union whose leaders meet at least once a year in different host cities. The G20 Leaders' Summit will be held on 15 and 16 November 2014 in Brisbane. This will be the most significant meeting of world leaders Australia has hosted and will put the world's focus on Brisbane and Queensland.

Additionally, the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting will be held on 20 and 21 September 2014 in Cairns.

G20 provides an opportunity for Queensland students to further explore the world they live in and Australia’s place in the world.

Information

The QSA is developing work units for P–10 that relate to the learning areas of Geography, Economics and Business, Civics and Citizenship, and Studies of Society and Environment.

Our resources for Year 11 and 12 will relate to the syllabuses for Economics and Geography.

There will be additional P–12 activities linked to literacy and numeracy development that use G20 as a learning context.

Examples of what students may explore and learn about include:

• the interconnections between nations

• Australia's connections to the global economy

• the spatial, cultural and environmental characteristics of a range of nations

• the impact and importance of Queensland hosting the G20 Leaders Summit.

What you need to do

The QSA encourages teachers to make use of these topical resources which will be available in mid-July.
