Drama external assessment: Nominating recorded live performances

Purpose

To inform schools and other stakeholders of the procedures involved in the nomination of recorded live performances.

Background

External assessment in Drama requires Year 12 students to study a recorded live performance included on the prescribed list for the relevant year. As recorded live performances suitable for study in a diverse range of secondary school contexts are not widely available, nominations of newly published recorded live performances are welcome from external stakeholders. This will ensure the inclusion of a range of recorded live performances for study for external assessment for Drama.

Information

Nomination procedure

Nominations are to be made using the online application form available on the QCAA website:

www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/senior-subjects/the-arts/drama/assessment/recorded-live- performance-list-nomination-form.

An application must include a response (up to 1000 words) that addresses the selection criteria for the recorded live performances list: www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior-

qce/arts/snr_drama_19_ea_prescribed_live_perf_list_22.pdf.

At the close of nominations, the Learning Area Manager will make the full list of nominated recorded live performances available to the Recorded Live Performance Advisory Panel (RLPAP).

Recommendation procedure

Each year, a RLPAP will be convened to review any nominated recorded live performances submitted by external stakeholders, panel members and QCAA officers. Where possible, the panel will consist of:

• representatives from the three sectors (Education Queensland, Independent Schools Queensland and the Queensland Catholic Education Commission), with consideration to representation from a range of contexts and geographies

• a Drama Queensland representative

• a tertiary representative

• a representative from the State Library of Queensland

• a representative of Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander communities

• officers of the QCAA.

The RLPAP will review any applications according to the selection criteria for the prescribed list.

As chair of the RLPAP, the Learning Area Manager will communicate the recommendations of the RLPAP to the QCAA Board for approval. For each recommendation, a summary of comments against the criteria and guidelines will be submitted.

The QCAA’s decision will then be communicated to the applicant. If the recorded live

performance is approved, it will be added to the prescribed list in a year decided as appropriate by QCAA. Relevant details will be gathered from the application for annotations (production details, synopsis, etc.) to be included in the relevant prescribed list.

What you need to do

If you wish to nominate a recorded live performance for consideration for the prescribed list, complete the online application form on the QCAA website: www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/senior- subjects/the-arts/drama/assessment/recorded-live-performance-list-nomination-form.
