The School of Engineering offers courses at postgraduate level, at oro-professional level and at sub-professional level within its four Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Surveying. The professional Engineering courses, leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) require a Grade 12 entry standard and are offered on a full-time or part-time basis.

RULES RELATING TO STUDENT MATTERS

Powers and Duties of Head of Department

The Head of Department or, if designated, the Chief Examiner may approve or modify the assessment of the results recommended for each candidate, provided that the Head of Department or the Chief Examiner shall, before making any such modification, inform the examiner concerned of the change he proposes. and consider any comments the researcher may wish to make.

The responsible Head of Department will send a list of the final results of each candidate enrolled for that course and nominated for the examination to the relevant Academic Council. Any such change and the reasons for it will be reported to the Academic Council at its next meeting.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMME

A further part of the Department's continuing education policy is to allow suitably qualified individuals to register as unregistered students. An unregistered student can register for various subjects chosen from any course offered by the institute, as distinct from registering for the actual course. The enrollment procedures for unregistered students are somewhat more formal than are the case for the programs outlined in this booklet.

Persons seeking admission as an Unregistered Student must do so on an Application for Admission form available from the Admissions Department. Applicants must meet normal admission requirements, and admission may also depend on factors such as class sizes and quotas. Although tuition fees do not apply, unregistered students must pay the normal Part-Time Student Fee of $30.00 per year.

ADMISSION POLICY

Places are only offered to academically eligible applicants who have been granted a cadetship or other form of appropriate training at an approved department or practice. Degree or diploma in natural or applied sciences or other equivalent qualifications plus specified engineering requirement.

Post Graduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Degree or diploma in engineering from a recognized university or CAE or equivalent. Postgraduate Diploma in Land Development Surveying Degree or diploma in engineering or surveying; registration as surveyor or equivalent. Postgraduate Diploma in Library Science Degree from a recognized university or GAE in a field other than librarianship.

Enrolment

In special circumstances, the school head can only deviate from this rule after processing a written application to the registrar. AN approved subject from other Graduate Diploma courses run by QIT is only available by individual application to the Head of Department's Elective Program - Spring. AN approved subject from other Graduate Diploma courses conducted by QIT is only available on individual application to the Head of Department.

In special circumstances, the school principal may waive this rule only after consideration of a written application to the secretary. Powers and Duties of Municipal Engineer I ONE approved subject from other diploma courses offered by QIT is available only on individual application to the Head of Department Elective Program - Spring. ONE approved course from other degree courses run by QlT is available only on individual application to the Head of Department.

The following rules are related to the Graduate Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and are made by decision of the Council of the Institute. MEM203 GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. subject to the approval of the Board of Advanced Education) PART TIME. To be awarded a master's degree in mechanical engineering, a registered student must complete the following subjects and other work in two years of part-time study to the satisfaction of the Engineering Academic Board. To be eligible to enroll in the Graduate Diploma in Land Development Surveying an applicant requires.

Attendance

In special circumstances, the head of school may waive this rule, only after consideration of a written request to the registrar. These persons must comply with the general conditions covering the course and the rules regarding unregistered students.

The following rules apply to the Bachelor of Engineering degree and are determined by decision of the Institute Council.

BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING

Course Structure

A registered student admitted under these rules chooses to major in civil engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering. Most courses in the Bachelor of Engineering programs will be offered in day and evening study, based on demonstrated demand. Courses marked (D) in the part-time program will only be offered during the day, so that day's release is necessary for part-time students to complete the course.

To obtain a Bachelor of Engineering - Civil degree, a registered student must complete to the satisfaction of the Academic Engineering Council, the following subjects and other work for four years of full-time study or six years of part-time study.

Unregistered Students

A person may apply to study individual subjects as an unregistered student and may be admitted to classes provided there are vacancies. A student may be granted an exemption for any number of subjects outlined in their course of study, except that in all cases students must register for and take credit for all Stage 5 and Stage 6 subjects of the course. A student who in any subject fails to attend 80% of the general lesson, or submit 80% of all the practical work or assignment required in any subject, may be considered by the school principal to be unfit to take part in the semester exam.

Students must also comply with any specific safety dress requirements that may apply to an industry visit, field trip, field research project or practical assignment. Full-time study periods last sixteen weeks and the degrees that can be taken in the first or second semester are as follows: -. Subject to sufficient enrolment, elective courses in cartography and geodesy will be available from 1984.

Elective subjects are listed below, with suggested areas of application indicated by abbreviations. D 3. The number of elective courses will depend on the sufficient number of enrolled students. Students taking an EXTRAORDINARY course can choose a range of electives to suit their particular employment or qualification needs.

Electives are given in the recommended semesters along with suggested fields of application indicated by abbreviation. To obtain an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering1, a registered student must complete the following subjects in a two-year full-time course or a four-year part-time course by agreement with the Engineering Academic Board.
