Subject matter experts recruitment
Purpose
To notify teachers and schools that the QCAA is now seeking subject matter experts to be writers and scrutiny panel members for external assessment that will be implemented in 2022.
Background
In the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system, the QCAA is responsible for developing and marking external assessment. The QCAA invites teachers to support the
development of external assessment for General, General (Extension), General (Senior External Examination) and Alternative Sequence syllabuses by participating in writing panels and scrutiny panels.
Information
The development period for external assessment that will be implemented in 2022 will run from March to early June 2021. The QCAA is seeking eligible subject matter experts who will be available in this timeframe to be members of writing panels and scrutiny panels.
Eligibility
Writing panel
To be a writing panel member, a teacher must be able to:
• use their subject matter expertise to participate in the development of external assessment
• develop responses to external assessment
• make recommendations for approval.
Scrutiny panel
To be a scrutiny panel member, a teacher must be able to:
• review the external assessment and marking guide
• develop a response to the assessment
• provide advice about the validity of the assessment.

Accreditation
To be considered for these roles, applicants must have successfully completed Accreditation courses 1, 2 and 6 (including assessment). The Accreditation courses and assessment are available in the QCAA Portal: www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/portal.
Applicants should not be teaching Units 3 and 4 in the year in which the assessment will be used with Year 12 students. This includes tutoring students or providing feedback on drafts and practice assessments. However, applicants who are teaching the General syllabus for a subject may apply for positions related to that subject’s Alternative Sequence or Senior External
Examination assessments.
Scheduling
The activities, dates and time commitments for each subject are listed by learning area at the end of this memo:
• External assessment 2022 development: Writing schedule for 2021, p. 3
• External assessment 2022 development: Scrutiny schedule for 2021, p. 6
The QCAA encourages all interested teachers to apply. If you are not sure of your availability for all of the dates listed, you should still apply — final appointments will be made based on
availability.
Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS) will be provided for school-based participants for weekday activities. Out-of-school hours participants will be paid an hourly rate of $52.15.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online through the Assessor jobs application in the QCAA Portal:
www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/portal. Please refer to the position description in Assessor jobs for more detailed information.
Applications close Monday 1 March 2021.
