An Act to amend the Education Act, 1915-1946.

BE IT ENACTED by the Governor of the State of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Parliament thereof, as follows:
ShorttitIes. 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the "Education Act
Incorporation.
Enactment of 8.25& of the principal Act-
Ares school committees.
Amendment Act, 1947 (No.2) ".
(2) The Education Act, 1915-1946, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the "Education Act, 1915-1947".
(3) The Education Act, 1915-1946, is hereinafter caned
" the principal Act" .
2. This Act is incorporated with the principal Act and that Art and this Act shall be read as one Act.
3. The following section is enacted and inserted in the principal Act after section 25 thereof : -
25a. (1) A school committee (in this section called" an area school committee") may be constituted for any area school.
(2) An area school committee shall consist of-
(a) such number of elected members not exceeding seven as the Minister determines; and

(b) if the Minister so directs, such number of appointed members not exceeding five, as the Minister determines.
(3) The elected members of an area school committee shall be elected, in manner prescribed, by the parents of the children attending the school.
(4) The appointed members of an area school committee shall be appointed by the Minister.
(5) The' members of an area school committee shall hold office for such term as is prescribed: Provided that the Minister may at any time remove any such member for reasonable cause.
(6) During any vacancy on an area school committee the remaining members may act as if no vacancy existed.
(7) The members of the committee of an area school in office at the time of the enactment of this section shall constitute the area school committee for that school until a new committee is appointed under this section.
(8) Neither section 25 nor section 26 of this Act shall apply in relation to area school committees.
