An Act to amend the Education Act, 1915-1947.
[Assented to 12th August, 1948.]
BE IT ENACTED by the Governor of the State of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Parliament thereof, as follows :
1. (1) This Act may be cited as the "Education Act Amendment Act, 1948 ".
(2) The Education Act, 1915-1947, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the" Education Act, 1915-1948 ".
(3) The Education Act, 1915-1947, is in this Act called" the principal Act".
2. This Act is incorporated with the principal Act and that Act and this Act shall be read as one Act.

Temporary members of board.
28ca. (1) When-
(a) an elected member, by reason of illness, absence, interest, or other cause, is unable to act or precluded by law from acting on the board in any case or during any period; and
(b) the deputy of that member is for any such cause as mentioned in paragraph (a) unable to act or precluded by law from acting in that case or during that period, or there is a vacancy in the office of the deputy of that member,

the Governor on the nomination of the Minister may appoint a teacher to act as a temporary member of the board.
(2) A temporary member shall be of the same sex as the member to whose place the temporary member is to act.
(3) Before nominating a temporary member the Minister shall consult the executive bodies of the registered associations of teachers or such other persons as may be authorized by any such association to consult with the Minister on its behalf: Provided that the Minister need not consult an association having no members of the same sex as the temporary member to be appointed.
(4) The minute of appointment of a temporary member shall specify the period during which, or the proceedings in which, the temporary member is to act on the board.
(5) While acting on the board a temporary member 8hall have all the authorities, powers and duties of a member.
(6) A temporary member shall be paid such remunera- tion as the Governor determines.
