Join Gail Davis as she gives you an introductionto the NSW State Archives and how you can use them to undertake your own research. Gail will also show records held at the State Archives which show the role of the State Government in NSW during the Great War and the records which give an insight into life in NSW during the war years.
Gail will be looking at the contributions made by NSW Public Servants who went to war, those who didn’t return, and those who survived the war and what happened to them afterwards.
Gail will talk about the records which can be found to document their lives created by the Departments and Agencies for which they worked.
The Hills Shire, with settlement beginning in 1794, has a rich history of farming and agriculture and boasts a wealth of places that provide a link to the past.
Jennifer Farrer from Boronia Tours will guide you through some of the most beautiful, historical walks in The Hills. Using photos from her guided bushwalks, Jennifer will explore the history behind sites such as Rifle Range Road, the quarry site for stone for Lake Parramatta, Thomas Atkins’ house, Aboriginal sites in Bidjigal Reserve, along with the historical sites along the Heritage Trail in Baulkham Hills.

Before the Eureka Stockade and the Rum Rebellion was the Castle Hill Rebellion that resulted in the Battle of Vinegar Hill.
Join Lynette Silver as she discusses her book The Battle of Vinegar Hill. Extensively updated and revised for that bi-centenary in 2004, it remains the only full-length account of the battle and is cited as the leading authority in The Oxford Guide to Australian History.
On the night of 4 March 1804, Irish patriots exiled to Australia rose in rebellion with the cry ‘Death or Liberty’. Poorly armed, they failed miserably in their bid for freedom, put down ruthlessly by a far superior force. Their ill-fated battle, the result of years of failed mini-rebellions, botched escape attempts, mutiny, wild rumours, betrayals, conspiracies and personal tragedy will vividly be brought to life by Lynette.
Lynette will be selling copies of her book on the day at a special rate of $20.
Cash only.

Convict Database
The Hills Shire Library Service is establishing an online convict database aimed at identifying convicts who lived or worked in or near to The Hills Shire district from 1788-1860.
Can you help build this valuable resource?
We are seeking the name of the convict (including name abbreviations), the name of the convict ship and the year in which the ship arrived in the Colony. Please contact Castle Hill Library on 9761 4510 if you have any information that can assist.
