MAYORAL MINUTE NO 7/2022

2022 HILLS RELAY FOR LIFE BALL

10 MAY 2022

Councillors,

Each year, Relay For Life is held across the nation as a community fundraising event for the Cancer Council of NSW. Teams of people take turns walking around a track to signify that cancer never rests and to raise funds and awareness.

Organised by local volunteers, The Hills Relay for Life holds a number of events designed to celebrate survivors, remember lost loved ones and support those battling cancer.

The Hills Relay for Life is a well-attended community event and provides an opportunity for people whose lives have been touched in some way by cancer to reflect and commemorate.

In 2022, Hills Relay for Life will host a main event at the Castle Hill Showground on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May with lap walking, a remembrance ceremony and entertainment.

Money raised goes to Cancer Council activities that support people affected by cancer, fund research and improve cancer prevention.

As well as the main event, a number of supplementary fundraising events are held including trivia nights, raffles and the annual Hills Relay for Life Ball.

This year, the Hills Relay for Life Ball will be held on Saturday 4 June at 6.30pm at the Castle Hill RSL Club. The Relay Ball has its own fundraising committee and is organised by local volunteers. The Ball is a major part of the relay fundraising efforts with tickets being

$150 each and a table of 10 costing $1,450.

Council supports The Hills Relay for Life by providing the Castle Hill Showground venue free of charge for the main event, however to further support the Cancer Council in its efforts to understand more about cancer and support sufferers and their families, I would like to propose that Council purchase one table of 10 seats at a cost of $1,450.

Accordingly, I move that:

MOTION:

1. This Mayoral Minute be received.

2. The General Manager be delegated to purchase up to a maximum of two tables of 10 seats each to be allocated as per the Facilities Policy.

(2)

AN AMENDMENT WAS MOVED BY COUNCILLOR HAY AND SECONDED BY THE MAYOR THAT

1. This Mayoral Minute be received.

2. The General Manager be delegated to purchase up to a maximum of two tables of 10 seats each to be allocated as per the Facilities Policy.
