Information for Reviewers

The Journal of New Zealand Grasslands publishes peer-reviewed papers with a focus on temperate grassland research. The scope of the journal includes all aspects of pastoral research including agronomy, soils, animals, agricultural extension and farm-systems research.

Types of paper published include research articles, literature reviews, perspectives on specific topics and agricultural practice papers that demonstrate the application of previously published scientific research.

The review policy of the Journal of the New Zealand Grasslands is that:

• Research articles are peer-reviewed by two anonymous reviewers with scientific expertise relevant to the topic to ensure quality and consistency.

• Authors are required to amend their papers accordingly and amended papers are re-reviewed by the editor and if necessary sent back to referees for further consideration.

Reviewers are provided with, and are asked to consider, a range of points relevant to the type of manuscript while undertaking their review.

Any manuscript should be rejected if one or more of the following issues are found:

- the work falls outside the scope of the Journal of New Zealand Grasslands - there are insufficient data to support any useful conclusions

- inappropriate methods have been used - results have been incorrectly interpreted

- data have not been statistically analysed (unless there is a very good reason for not doing so)

- information in the manuscript is either not new (although review papers will be considered) or there is insufficient information to warrant publication as a full paper

- unethical practices have occurred, such as falsification of data, plagiarism, duplicate publication or mistreatment of animals.
