Revised timeline for the implementation of revised General, Applied (Essential) and Short Course syllabuses
Purpose
To advise schools that the timeline for the implementation of revised General, Applied (Essential) and Short Course syllabuses has been revised.
Background
The QCAA is committed to ensuring senior syllabuses reflect best practice in teaching and learning and support a world-class curriculum and assessment system. We regularly review syllabuses to ensure they remain current and responsive to stakeholder needs, advances in knowledge and government initiatives.
The current review and revision of senior syllabuses began in 2020, with the intention that the revised syllabuses would be implemented with Year 11 students in 2024.
Information
In May, the QCAA Board decided to extend the review and revision of General, Applied (Essential) and Short Course syllabuses by one year, meaning that these syllabuses will be implemented with Year 11 students in 2025.
This decision:
• allows any additional information provided to the QCAA through an external evaluation of the QCE system to be considered in the review
• provides Queensland schools with time to implement both Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum and the redeveloped Applied syllabuses
• does not affect the timeline for the redevelopment of the Applied syllabuses, which will be implemented with Year 11 students in 2024.
