Essential English: Preparing for Common Internal Assessment in 2020
Purpose
• To notify schools about the topics for the Essential English Applied syllabus Common internal assessment (CIA) in 2020.
• To remind schools that have not yet selected their Essential English CIA phase of delivery in 2020 to complete this as soon as possible.
• To notify schools of upcoming professional development webinars on using the sample Essential English CIA and associated resources.
Background
In the Essential English Applied senior syllabus, the CIA is developed by the QCAA and marked by teachers.
Information
Topics
The topics for 2020 are:
• personal resilience
• group resilience.
Schools deliver the CIA in one of four phases and will receive a 2020 CIA paper on either personal resilience or group resilience, depending on their selected phase.
Phase of delivery
Schools select their phase of delivery in the Student Management application on the QCAA Portal. Principal’s delegates are responsible for ensuring their school has selected its phase of delivery.
The 2020 CIA paper will be made available to schools at the beginning of their nominated phase and once available, it is recommended that it is administered in the third week of the CIA phase.
(see attached schedule).
