Retaining student work
Purpose
To remind schools to retain folios of student work used in determining exit levels of achievement.
Reasons for retaining student work
Evidence contained in student exit folios must be available to support school judgments in determining exit level of achievement decisions and for quality assurance purposes. Folios of evidence may be required for:
• the November confirmation period, to substantiate school exit level of achievement decisions
• applications for verification or review of results requested by students in Authority and Authority- registered subjects
• random sampling for quality assurance procedures for Authority subjects. Requests for random sampling folios will be made before the end of the year
• internal and external reviews for quality assurance of a Sound Achievement in a QSA short course in literacy or numeracy to meet literacy and numeracy requirements for the QCE. For each year that any short course in literacy and numeracy is offered, the school will:
– retain one sample student folio from that literacy and/or numeracy course
– annotate that sample student folio to identify how the evidence in the responses demonstrate the qualities of Sound Achievement in literacy and/or numeracy
– present the annotated sample folio for internal and external reviews.
What you need to do
Please bring this information to the attention of staff and put procedures in place to:
• retain all student work used in determining exit levels of achievement in Authority, Authority- registered subjects and QSA short courses until the end of Term 1, 2014
• retain annotated sample folios for reviews described above until the next external review.
