Some people at Mt Leibig are worried about the number of people get- ting sick with diabetes and heart trouble. In the old days, Aboriginal people had no diabetes or heart trouble and people did not get too fat.

Changes in foods people eat, too much alcohol and less activity can cause diabetes and heart trouble.

When people eat too much fat (from fatty meat, take-away foods and cooking oil) or too much sugar (from sugar and cool drinks) and too little fibre (from bread, cereals, fruit and vegetables) they can get FAT and might get diabetes or heart trouble.

We need to know about the types of food that people are eating in Mt Leibig so we can help them to stay healthy. Nutrition people from Ter- ritory Health Services were asked by the clinic and store people to look at the foods people were buying in Mt Lei big.

This book tells the story of what store foods are eaten in Mt Lei big.

NUMBER OF DIFFERENT FOODS

Mt Lei big sells about 110 different types of foods which is about the same as most other community stores in the Centre. This means that there is a variety off oods for people in Mt Lei big to choose.
