Bities xand Settlement Act 1593 ’* in certain partictllars :Be it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the autho- rity of the same, as follows :-

contained in the words cc The senior member for the time being of a group as set forth in the eighth section of this Act” is hereby repealed, and the following words are substituted therefor :-tr The member whose election as secretary has been from time to time certified to the Minister in the manner set forth in the eighth section of the Principal Act as amended by this Act.”

So much of the eighth section of the Principal Act as is conbiied in the words (‘ The member whose name from time to time appears first upon the copy of the rules deposited with the Ninister shall be entitled the secretary of the group, and to him all communica- tions upon the a f f k of the group shali be addressed by the Minister, and notice to him shall be notice to each and every member : Pro- vided that after the original list of member6 is exhausted the member for the time being first in order of admission to membership shall be the secretary of the group” B hegby repealed, and the following enactment is substituted therefor :-The members of the group may from time to time elect one of their number t o be the secretary of the group, and may in like manner remove such member from the office of secretary. Writing signed by a majority of the members for the time being, and upon such writing being received by the Minister, the person named therein as having been elected shall be and be recognised as the secre- tary of the group, and to him all communications upon the &airs of the group shall be addressed by the Minister, and notice t o him s h d be notice to each and every member: Provided that until such writing is so received the pwson hitherto secretary shall continue to be in office.

4. The Governor in Council may, out of any moneys appro- priated by Parliament for that purpose, make further advances, in the to w y of the groups set forth in the Schedule of this Act to such respectiye amounts and for such purposes as he may see fit, but the whole amount of such advanoes shall not exceed the sum of three thousand pounds.
Such advances shall be subject to all the provisions of the Principal Act in respect of advances made under the authority of the said thirty-third section thereof.
