Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has suffered like no other. A human rights activist from Burma, she was under house arrest by the Burmese government for almost 10 years.
To support the plight of her people she gave up her freedom, her life, her family and the last years with her husband before his death. This is a tribute to an amazing Nobel Peace Prize winner, a true 2oth Century woman.

Klimt has surrounded this fulfilment of amorous longing in gold with sensually spirited colours and patterns. Yet the woman's hand around the man's neck is not lying relaxed on his skin but is cramped, the fingers hidden, almost making a clenched fist. His hands around her are open, holding and supporting her. He bends down to her lovingly but she has turned her head sideways, offering him only her cheek and not her lips. And those dreamily closed eyes - Is this the symbol of union between man and woman as the fusion of two bodies into one - but is this really so? Could they signal resistance rather than surrender? Is this not an indication of total fusion but actually one of total alienation between man and woman?

Digital culture seems to sample and reference the past - a collective memory that we share, a lifetime saturated by media. Where does the line between personal and generic memory exist? Such an intangible reality is my past - I find myself asking: "How can I be sure that my real memories aren't simply a series of childhood super 8mm's?"
