Our vision

Supporting Queensland’s world-class education system through excellence in curriculum and assessment

Our purpose

To provide curriculum and assessment leadership that enables schools to achieve quality learning outcomes for their students, and to maintain public confidence in the integrity of senior certification

Our objectives

1. Provide curriculum, assessment and certification leadership.

2. Support the education community to achieve quality learning outcomes.

3. Build an effective, responsible organisation with high performing staff who are empowered, valued and supported.

4. Provide coordinated and aligned corporate services that support professional and ethical customer service delivery.

Our immediate strategic priorities

1. Deliver the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system.

2. Support schools and early years educators to implement the P–10 Australian Curriculum and revised Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline.

3. Provide resources to support schools to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for students.

4. Improve the delivery of services and client engagement by renewing information systems and communication channels.

5. Cultivate a high-performing and innovative workforce.

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) contributes to the Government’s objectives for the community:

• Give all our children a great start by providing contemporary, high-quality curriculum and assessment programs that support educators and learners from kindergarten to Year 12.

• Create jobs in a strong economy by providing the education community with the resources and training it needs to develop teaching and learning programs that ensure Queensland students are equipped for lifelong learning and active and informed citizenship.

• Be a responsive government by working in partnership with teachers, principals, school sectors, parents, students and other stakeholders to ensure our services support teaching practice and student learning.

Strategic risks

• Changing education environment — We will contribute to, and respond to, state and national reforms and international trends in education to ensure Queensland students are prepared for the future.

• Reforming senior curriculum and assessment — We will implement contemporary program management approaches and provide schools with ongoing professional learning opportunities and high quality resources to ensure that the new QCE system is delivered successfully.

• Information security — We will implement security

programs to protect our data and information systems from unauthorised access, use or disclosure, and we will manage our information in accordance with government policy.

• Organisational change — We will empower and appropriately resource new and existing staff to ensure continued high-quality support for the education community.

1.1 Develop, deliver and evaluate the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system.

1.2 Support schools to transition to the new QCE system.

1.4 Provide kindergarten guidelines, syllabuses and supporting resources that represent world’s best practice.

1.5 Provide resources to support school communities to implement the P–10 Australian Curriculum.

1.7 Develop, administer and mark assessment programs and provide resources to strengthen the assessment practices of teachers.

2.1 Work with the school education authorities to support teachers to improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy and other key priority learning areas, e.g. science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

2.2 Provide high-quality data, reports and analyses of student achievement to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.

2.3 Develop a policy on the delivery of educational programs internationally.

2.4 Use inclusive consultation and communication to develop effective partnerships across the education and wider community.

2.5 Implement innovative, efficient and integrated ICT solutions.

2.6 Strengthen networks with universities and researchers.
