Release of Short Course syllabuses:

Literacy, Numeracy and Career Education

Purpose

To notify schools that the redeveloped Literacy, Numeracy and Career Education Short Course syllabuses for the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system are now available and may be implemented from 2018.

Background

Short Course syllabuses are single unit courses that provide opportunities for students to

demonstrate the minimum requirements of the QCE. Students who achieve a grade of C or above in any Short Course will gain one credit. The teaching and assessment for each Short Course is designed to be delivered over 55 hours.

Information

The Literacy, Numeracy and Career Education (previously Career Development) Short Course syllabuses are now available online via the QCAA website:

www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/subjects/short-courses and QCAA Portal:

www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/portal/home/landing.

The redeveloped Short Course syllabuses may be implemented from 2018. Schools may

continue to use the 2010 Literacy, Numeracy and Career Development Short Course syllabuses in 2018. However, from 2019, schools must use the redeveloped 2018 Short Course syllabuses.

Please note that schools choosing to implement the redeveloped Short Course syllabuses in 2018 will be required to enter student data for these syllabuses into the new Student

Management application, instead of the Student Data Capture System (SDCS). The Student Management application goes live in 2018.

Further details regarding professional development opportunities and implementation support for the redeveloped Short Course syllabuses will be provided in 2018.

A Short Course in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Languages has been developed and will be available in due course.
