Short course senior syllabuses

Purpose

To inform schools about three short course senior syllabuses for implementation with students in the senior phase of learning.

Background

The Authority has approved the following short course senior syllabuses for general implementation:

 Literacy: A short course senior syllabus 2010 (subject code 6097)

 Numeracy: A short course senior syllabus 2010 (subject code 6098)

 Career development: A short course senior syllabus 2010 (subject code 6099).

Each course may be recorded in a learning account no earlier than semester 2, 2011.

Information

Literacy and numeracy

The Literacy and Numeracy short course senior syllabuses (2010) replace the Short courses in Literacy and Numeracy dated 2006 (subject codes 6095 and 6096).

No student will be able to record credit for the Short courses in Literacy and Numeracy (2006) in a learning account after 2010.

A result of Sound Achievement or higher in each of these short course senior syllabuses will meet the literacy and numeracy requirements for awarding the QCE and contribute one credit in the preparatory category for each.

Career development

The Career development short course senior syllabus (2010) is new. A result of Sound Achievement or higher in this short course senior syllabus will contribute one credit to the QCE in the enrichment category.

Attachments and web links

The following resources for each of the short course senior syllabuses can be found on the QSA website (www.qsa.qld.edu.au) under Years 10–12 > Years 11 & 12 subjects:

 syllabus in PDF format (the PDF version is the official syllabus against which study plans are written)

 study plan requirements (schools will find this useful in preparing study plans).
