• This paper provides an introduction to Small Business Management and its application to new ventures as well as existing small
businesses. The areas examined in this paper focus mainly on the systems and processes required to establish a sustainable and profitable business. Major Topics covered in this paper include:
 An introduction to Small Business Management;
 Small Business opportunities – exploring options;
 Strategy and competitive advantage in small business;
 Starting and funding a small business;
 Basic systems in small business;
 Legal and ethical issues in small business management;
 Managing resources in small business;
 Markets, market research and marketing;
 Staying in Financial control;
 Exit strategies and succession in small business.
This paper provides a sound foundation for the study of Enterprise Development as a major subject in the BBS degree.
